"Assist-stealing"

Assist-stealing is what I call the skill of dealing damage to an enemy even when the kill is secured already, but still leaving the kill to a teammate. Basically, it is killstealing without actually taking the kill. This can be useful as a tank or support, because if you can still "help" with an already secured kill, you get the assist gold. For example, if your Vayne Es someone to the wall and deletes them, or your Katarina jumps onto their backline, you can get gold for it, instead of just EXP.

I want to ask, does anyone else deliberately try to do this? Do you really think about it?

Is this not exactly what every half decent Support does? I always make sure I buffed someone or got a hit in; Gangplank is ridiculously easy to secure an Assist with because his E has such a large radius. Even just using your item active on the carry gets it.

As anyone that has any kind of buff, shield, heal, etc I use them liberally to get random assists. Works especially well with Galio, just give your team a movement speed buff as you back and enjoy your free gold.

Pretry sure if you don't do this while playing Soraka Gangplank you're playing them wrong.

I ALWAYS do this. I even do things like Black Shield an ulting Pantheon, not even always because he might be falling into someone with CC, but also just to get a free assist.

Well when i'm playing soraka, if my toplane/midlane is destroying their opponet, i cast my ult just to get the assist if it seems i wont need the ult anytime soon... or if my adc is melting the enemy lane i toss a quick w heal just for the assist. soooo.... helps me get those items quicker. lol

I do it when I am the support. If I am in base and I see and ally teleporting out of base I will toss a lantern on them right as they are about to leave. Or casting Nami's slow shots onto a teleporting ally. Or giving a Janna shield on my Ezreal or Ashehole as they use their ults. Or using something to buff Karthus as he ults. Stuff like that. I just don't use items or spells with super long cool downs or abuse an ability if I am not 100% sure I won't need that ability up in the next 10-15 seconds.
