Calling all **avengers AatroxAatrox ** mains/players. I love aatrox and would love to join the ranks as a Aatrox main. I got very few questions.

item 1055 Builds: Do I go Fighter or Tank? Do I prioritize AD or AS?

{{summoner:2}} Skills: I am 90% sure I max R.E,W,Q am I right?

item 3010 Runes: What is some rune pages for this guy and what one do you like the most. If multiple Aatrox rune pages tell me when to use which one

summoner 4 Tips and Tricks: I feel that he is good when ahead but its hard to get there. Also I feel that he is hard to maintain your lead if you are ahead.

item 2043 Your thoughts: I love hearing others thoughts on Aatrox.

summoner 11 Role: You prefer Jungle Aatrox or Top

Not an Aatrox main but I got a few points I can clarify. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere Aatrox mains/higher ELO peeps

re: Builds

Fighter 90% of the time, as he synergizes so well with Attack speed and lifesteal. He doesn't bring that much to a fight that doesn't rely on doing damage.

Core build will look something like this: item 3065 item 3153 item 3111

re: Skills

You'll be able to max two skills before your ult, so max order will be W,E,R,Q in this case simply because your ult can;t be maxed til 16. Get it asap at 6 of course, but you get my meaning.

His W is his core ability and the whole reason you bring him into a fight, so maxing it first is paramount. E second because you get a higher slow and reduced cd per level. Q is there for the knock down and escape so putting levels into it isn't as helpful as the other abilities.

re: Runes

AD, mitigation. Maybe attack speed. Otherwise not worth it.

re: Tips, roles, thoughts

I'll leave that to the Aatrox mains

It really depends on your team and the opponents team

  • Build: Almost always go for a fighter build. Rush either item 3153 or item 3074 first item (one is great for killing your opponent and team fighting, the other is better for split pushing) After that, going for either item 3143 or item 3065 depending on the matchup is usually best, after which point you can either go very tanky or very damage oriented. If you are laning against a bursty AP (or their AP mid is fed), item 3156 is an excellent item, and I would usually rush at least the first half of it before getting SV. Warmog's is rather situational on Aatrox, but if you are split pushing or roaming a lot, the out of combat sustain is excellent. now if you want to be really gutsy, I'd say get a Phantom dancer. The AS, crit, MS and passive are all excellent on a damage oriented Aatrox, and you get to actually see Aatrox's crit animation (one of the coolest in the game, but rarely seen). I allows for much higher damage output, better sustain from W procs, and makes creep block a thing of the past. I would only get it if you have two reliable frontliners (tank jungle and a tanky support) and the enemy team has relatively low CC (alternatively, if they have a lot of CC, getting PD is an excellent way to force them to split their CC between you, your mid, and your ADC).

  • R>E>W>Q is the most common leveling setup for a lane Aatrox so you can get the most out of your early level mixed damage and poke from E. If you are in a hard lane or jungling, leveling R>W>E>Q is often better, since it allows you to sustain better. Basically, Q gets maxed last because it is mostly for initiation, and not a primary damage ability.

  • I don't really know about best runes on Aatrox, since I only have a few rather generalized rune pages atm, sorry.

  • I have to agree on this point. He is definitely all about getting a big early lead, but because he falls off late game (relatively squishy, poor ratios, mixed damage abilities) once you have that lead it can feel like you only have it for a little while. I would say play very aggressive in most lane matchups, and assert your dominance in the mid game where you are strongest. Split push and force objectives late game, since you are only really suited to 1v1 dueling after your mid game burst diminishes. Again, picking up a PD does wonders for your scaling if you aren't playing tanky, just be wary of the fact that you will be rather squishy.

  • Other thoughts... I'd say right now he is a really fun champ, but his kit is a little bland. The theme and identity he has in his lore are fantastic, but that didn't translate all too well into his kit. He doesn't feel quite as elegant or leader-like as his lore makes him out to be, and that makes me sad, but overall, he is still a very fun champion to play.

  • I personally main jungle, so I use him there most simply because I play jungle most. I actually prefer him as a laner though, because I feel like his immense early game sustain and damage trading potential kind of go to waste in the jungle. His ganks are good, but not amazing, but in lane his presence can bully out a wide selection of other champions between his excellent W+E burst trades, mixed damage, and high sustain. He can tower dive easily as either a laner or jungler, so that isn't really relevant, but I think the fact that h is a class duelist and can trade 1 for 1 in kills but come out ahead with his passive makes him much better at shutting down a hard scaling opponent in a lane.

Aatrox Jungle is terrible; quite possibly the worst of all champions that are supposedly intended to be junglers. His clear is slow and he can't keep health up prior to some giant lifesteal item purchase, which is ironic due to the fact one of his core abilities is about HP recovery. By the time you have that you've already lost because the other team has a gold advantage as a consequence of your terrible jungle clear.
