Looking to pick up a strong mid laner

As the title says, im looking for a solid mid lane pick to run. I was thinking Xerath but I recall hearing someone say he was getting nerfed or something in the next patch. My current go-to mid laner is Twisted Fate but I don't really have the right attitude to play him in the aggressive manner that he needs to be played in.

With your playstyle Xerath is a decent pickup and will remain strong because he can still be relevant and deal some good damage while playing defensively.

Alternatively Orianna is a good pickup for a non aggressive laner.

Viktor also performs well if you're more of a farmer than an aggresser, because simply getting his hexcore upgrades and some other items let's him practically 1shot people in the late game.

The issue that you'll have personally is that the meta is very much against these types of characters in that it's typically an assassin or burst type mid laner that you'll be against. I think I'd recommend Xerath or Orianna as they're the more globally effective for your playstyle, whereas in order for Viktor to thrive you have to play him into the right circumstances. Don't get me wrong the other two can be abused, but not as easily as Viktor.

Orianna is my favorite :D

Farm and crush people with your 2-3 item power spike. Game changing ultimates. You can even follow up very well on early ganks if you have an opportunity just because Orianna's skills are so supporty.

I think Xerath might get a slight reduction in his stun duration, which is fair IMO since his stun has such a long duration. If you want to pick Xerath, nothing wrong with him, his ult is a little difficult to use but he's strong; if he ends of getting nerfed I don't think it'll make him weak or anything. Other champions that are like him are Vel'Koz, Lux, Ziggs, Malzahar to a degree, who can just clear waves from really far away and not really have to deal with the enemy.

I'm actually gonna go with a controversial mid lane pick here: Ezreal. Most notably, Faker has had an insane success rate with Ezreal, often taking it over Xerath. Ezreal in many ways is similar to Twisted Fate in that they both have poke/farm patterns in lane; Ezreal wants to charge up his Muramana ASAP, and doesn't play aggressive. He has very powerful map pressure; Trueshot Barrage can be used to either contribute to extended teamfights in other lanes, or shove minion waves to dictate the tempo of the minion spawn and give your team a lot of control over where to rotate next.

For anyone who isnt aggressive like me champs that can stall time, usually via long range high waveclear are the best bet

Xerath is gettng his stun duration reduced but that's fine as it doesnt affect his siege and anti siege

Dear Debonare,

I recently returned to the League of Legends and am relearning the game but I feel I remember enough about the game to make some recommendations. If I were you I'd attempt to use mid-laners that are able to farm comfortably into the mid-game such as ( not in any particular order ) Annie, Malzahar, Karthus, Orianna, and Vladimir. The first three are able to keep their mana costs low as Annie's Q refunds all mana if it scores a kill, Malzahar's Malefic Visions restore mana for every kill they make and Karthus does the same with Defile. Orianna may not have a mana gimmick but her passive gives her auto-attacks enough oomph to farm effectively while using her other skills to keep her safe and Vladimir lacks mana and combines low cooldowns with health regen.

Of these, Annie or Vladimir would be my personal choice but I'm going to recommend Vlad because of how ridiculously safe he can be in his early game while gaining extreme power in his mid-game. You'll want to focus on maxing Transfusion ( Q ) first as it restores your health upon use. Sanguine Pool ( W ) is worth putting a point in early for dodging ultimates and catching up to fleeing foes to secure kills. Tides of Blood ( E ) gives him an Empowered stack (max 4) with each cast, increasing his healing and regeneration by 4/5/6/7/8% each for 10 seconds but you should be careful when using it early; Tides of Blood can easily kill you given it drains your HP and it may be best not to use the skill till Transfusion is at level 4/you have AP items. Your ultimate soaks an area in blood, giving a "plague" to all in the area of impact that causes foes to take 12% increased damage ( like DFG did ) for five seconds before doing additional damage to a foe.

If you are having a good early game with Vlad feel free to pick up a Mejai's as a second or third item; the item in question can turn Vladimir into a late-game powerhouse. You'll want to get a Zhonya's in your mid-game to extend Vlad's teamfight combo: R, E, Q, W, E, Q, Zhonya, E, Q. Before you go into a teamfight you'll want to make sure you have 4 stacks from your E to make the most out of your combo. Finally, it is worth noting that whenever you gain HP from an item a portion of that is added to your AP and when an item gives you AP a portion of that is added to your HP; which makes Vlad extremely tanky.

I hope I've helped; Esjaibie, level 11.

P.S: I was going to put something here that was important but I forgot what it was; instead here are videos of a former Vlad-main putting up a great show with him until he starts goofing off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx6sA2CcFv8 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDJ96QV2Oww

Thanks for the input everyone. I picked up Xerath and will use him for now, and im thinking I might grab Vlad in the future to give me another solid option.

I use Anivia mid lane.. can take out an enemy in 2 hits if you build her and combo correctly

It REALLY depends on who you're against. Veigar is good for late game deathball if you can farm him right. But he's hard shut down by fizz, kat, talon, etc.

Alternatively, Kat is a good champion all game really, highest penta rate I'd think, but against a fizz that can jump stick and ignore half her damage, she's in heavy trouble.

The best option is to grab a counter. And worse case grab someone that you think could farm safely early, and poke well late.
