Teach me how to Galio, please

I've been terrified of mid lane since I started playing league because that lane is typically camp central and I hate that. And, while I like my mages, I'm fairly bad at them. Let's be real here. XD

Everyone on the forums suggests playing mid lane to counter all the mage matchups that I generally already have trouble with, like etc., but apparently he can also counter AD champs, too because he's a tank.

I tried him out in a custom game to get a feel for him and, holy hot damn, why is no one playing him. Someone please teach me what to do so I can start maining Galio. I need this gargoyle in my life. XD

I had experimented with his passive and build primarily MR, so my build was . The Q and E damage was real, omg. However, is that practical? Should I build more tanky overall?

How would his build differ if I wanted to go AP or tanky, or vs AD instead of vs AP? Also, how would I build and play him as support?

Please teach me, I want to know. <3

I play him more tanky.

He's mana hungry, so I always lead by building item 3174 because it's MR, CDR, and AP. That's generally good against the mages, helps his passive, and makes his Q more forgivable on missing.

From there maybe Rod of Ages an Sunfire (his auto's are terrible). Get the MR boots and from there maybe one more AP item. Everything else AP. It's a play-by-feel champ for me. Because you may get Zed. In that case, all tank all the time.

Well, because of his ult I like taking both Sunfire and Thornmail. Here are the items I'd generally build on him if I were up against a standard mage

w/ speed

Not necessarily in that order, but those items. I occasionally build a Warmogs instead of a RoA, but again it's based on feel. I don't believe in hard-static builds.

I play him typically as a Mage and not as tanky as some people do. Always rush a item 3174 in lane. If vs an AD laner, stop at chalice and get a item 3157 . I usually only play him as a counter pick because he is not as good vs full ad teams.

Try maxing W on Galio. Walk up into enemy minion wave. Cast W on self, now throw E in target's general direction. Watch as minion attacks heal you. Toss Q and just get in some auto attacks.

So the W heals him even when he's getting hit? I thought (from the tool tip) that it only heals him if he casts it on an ally and that ally receives damage (which is so troll, lol).
