im looking for tips on playing against a cait, shes just so obnoxious during laning phase. i know the basic ones like dodge her poke but if any of you could share more advanced tips it would be warmly welcomed, particularly with a draven matchup. maybe cheese strats or anything, i always struggle against her.

also on a side note i dont play adc much and im a really new draven player so i would really appriciate good help! :)

Ok, here's how I win against Caitlyn

Pick MissFortune

Never be in range of Caitlyn auto's, you don't want to take any free poke.

But you want to use your Q, which bounces off minions, aim it at her ranged minions and you can poke her for free. It only takes like 3 shots to get her to half health. Then you can play aggressively, either all in her or zone her out of creeps. Every time she tries to get some CS fight her.

That's how you win lane, then just by the natural power spikes of the champs you'll have a much stronger mid game than cait.

However if it gets to the 5-6 item stage of the game, I'd give the edge to Caitlyn , so try and build a huge lead in the mid game, and end it asap

From what I see below in the comments, a suggestion was to get your jungler to gank since she is an ADC that relies on pushing and outfarming/getting the tower to win her early vs an opponent. Here are my suggestions for what YOU can do in lane to beat a Caitlyn:

  1. Choose a champion with equal range: Jinx or Kog'maw are good choices. You can counter Cait's harass/poke with poke of your own. Both have on-hit affects on their spells, so as long as you can dodge peacemaker, you could potentially win trades. If you cant reliably dodge peacemaker, wait for it to go on CD then go in and harass.

Note: I often to Jinx to counter Caitlyn, but here is an important factor! I dont play jinx to beat Cait in lane due to her having more mobility - I play jinx in lane to be sure I can farm even w/ Cait's range and that I can have the strength to react if my support makes a play

  1. Choose a champion who can close the range gap: Lucian, Tristana, or Corki are good choices. Beat range by having more mobility than your opponent! She can't out-poke you when you get in her face and let her have it right back. Just be sure your positioned correctly so the enemy support cant immediately negate your damage/cc you. As noted before, WAIT FOR COOLDOWNS TO BE ON!

  2. Wait patiently and farm under the tower: If Caitlyn is absolutely wrecking you in lane no matter what you try, commit to staying behind the tower and attempting to land EVERY. SINGLE. CREEP. 1 kill = ~18 CS (this is definitely not set in stone, more of a simple guideline for players). If you outfarm her or at least stay even, she wont have a huge lead. You can outscale a Caitlyn late game with almost any ADC and she can always be outplayed once you are full power :D

Let me know if you have any questions. I dont claim to be good at ADC, but it is my favorite role to play and I know the pain of going VS a good Caitlyn.

MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE: WATCH YOUR ENEMIES COOLDOWNS AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS, FARM FROM SAFETY.

As far as Draven match-up is concerned, perhaps the best best is too play with a Thresh support or someone else with hard cc/engage. You want to dish out your dmg while your support locks Cait down. I like Draven, but he is not the best choice VS Cait.

  1. play Ashe
  2. wait for Cait to push
  3. press R

the first champion i ever bought (with the 400rp riot gives you) was mf when she was on sale, gotta say i did love playing her but i eventually refunded her to get someone else and play a different lane. im a huge MF fan and i kinda wish more people played her, i think shes actually a really strong pick if played properly but then again i havent played her in a dogs age but ill consider your advice man, thanks for the input +1

Cait is weak against all ins. Other than that you need to prevent being hit by autos and doding her spells.

Don't try to trade with her, because you won't be able to walk out of her range without taking one too many hits. Just AA back whenever you can, especially when she's using her AA on a minion.

Push hard into her tower and dodge the resulting [Q] poke. Her wave clear isn't reliable and she ends up dropping everything in hopes of pushing you away. She'll go OoM pretty quick, and all you have to do is not step on traps. While she's focused on not missing out on CS, she can't poke you and either will be forced to back or try an all-in with her support. Never let her push to your tower, because her range is crazy good for free poke.

She's pretty safe because of her [E], so all-in situations have to be decided from the get-go. Risky tower dives are almost never an option because of how well she can kite you, not to mention what peels she'll get from her support.

As Draven, you can out-pace her pretty well, so try to force extended trades, if not all-ins, when she tries something. Use [W] to dodge incoming projectiles and get a lead so you can keep up when she uses her net.

Heres one outscale her She falls off like a brick her strength is to keep the enemy adc behind then end the game early before they catch up playing passive in lane as caitlyn is NOT a option use that to your advantage

A lot of people have put a lot of thought into a lot of replies. Really though, beating caitlyn in lane comes down to not taking too much harass and getting a good engage on her asap. Her harass is really good in lane but her all in is pretty meh, so pair up with an aggro supp, survive a level or two and see if you can get an all in. If not you just have to really watch your positioning and hers and be willing to give up a creep or two if you would take too much harass for it. If you can, take krugs/gromp lvl 1 @ 1:55 with a tanky support that has lots of hp pots to hit lvl 2 first. that alone will win you a lot of lanes.

FiendOfOne12/6/2014, 3:05:10 AM1 votes

Cait will push the lane up. Pretty much always. She is going to try and get some poke, and in doing so, wipe down your minion wave. That's fine, let her. Let her push the wave up. Let her overextend. As has already been stated, she has to be aggressive and win early. Call in your jungler to gank when she overextends, come back into lane behind her, etc.

Also, as Draven, keep in mind that your spinning axes landing point is telegraphed, so watch for her to try and use that and hit you. Don't let her get the free damage (especially since you can see her about to throw down her big poke).
