Carry your team for the low, low cost of 250 gold!

If you don't buy one of the upgraded trinkets shortly after reaching level nine, you are a bad player and you should feel bad. The Greater Stealth Totem item 3361 generates a stealth ward every minute, storing up to two at a time, and costs only 250 gold at level nine. With this trinket, a player can place more wards per minute than a support equipped with a Sightstone and Oracle's Lens if the support remains out of base for more than four minutes (five with a Greater Sightstone). In a recent forty minute game as jungle Nautilus, I placed 31 wards, only a little less than the number of wards I would tend to place as a item 2049+item 3364 support in a game of equal length, and more than any other player in the game (hooray low-MMR normals!). Including the wards I bought pre-nine, my total gold expenditure on wards was 575 gold, less than the cost of the Sightstone supports rely on. Similarly, the upgraded yellow trinket has allowed me to place over twenty 180-second wards in my last several games as an ADC, allowing me to safely farm and split push without risking being ganked.

If you have reached level nine and do not plan on ending the game within five minutes, you have very little reason to not upgrade your trinkets and challenge your support for the most wards placed or cleared in the game. The cost is lower than that of a longsword, and the vision control offered by item 3361, item 3364, and item 3363 will seriously impact most games if they are used frequently. Strong team warding will increase your support's time out of base and will make them love you more than Taric loves Ezreal (trust me, I'm a support main). It will also allow your support and at least one other ally to trade their yellow trinket for a red one and clear enemy wards so your opponents can see only themselves, forcing them into painful introspection and demoralizing them.

If that is not motivation enough to upgrade your trinkets, usually into a Greater Stealth Totem item 3361, know that if you fail to do so, Sona will cry item 3070Sonaitem 3070, the Banambulance Soraka will refuse to come to your aid, Taric Taric will think you are outrageous, and Teemo will be buffed Teemo.

Don't let Teemo be buffed. Upgrade your trinket.

If ur a lower elo, i highly recommend that you buy the upgrade yellow trinket. Players seldom utilize vision and anti-vision (pink wards and scanning lens) at lower elos. Vision control wins you the game by allowing you to make better informed decisions from knowing the enemy's positioning. Buy the upgraded yellow trinket (greater stealth totem) because it acts like a pseduo sightstone. The charges for the wards recharge every 60 seconds and you can hold onto 2 charges. Its really good.

I really like the new 250 gold upgrade 2 charges wards because even without sightstone, I am able to help my support to ward enemy jungle or river.

Honestly at times, while I do always mean to get one, I just forget, not like I don't care, but I legit forget.

What should I do if I'm playing support though? Go item 2049/item 2045+item 3364? Or skip that, grab item 3361/item 3362, and then go straight into core support items?

that moment when you have full build +4k and you forget that upgrading trinket was a thing

Personally, it doesn't make me ward more at all. I generally place 8-9 wards per game, sometimes less. I do like the increased duration, but I just pick it up when I have 250 gold (rather than prioritize it).
