Play Vel'koz duo bot with a marksman to support you. Take all the kills. AoE the shit out of teamfights and kill the whole enemy team. Ping objectives so that maybe one of your supports will help you capture/destroy them. Win the game.

Nice details...

a. Learn when to get ignite/exhaust

Ignite is good for snowballing lane and generally doesn't do much post-laning phase. Ignite is good if you're playing burst supports/lane bullies such as Thresh, Blitzcrank, Leona.

Exhaust is good for peeling/protecting ADC Exhaust is good against Zed/Yi/Riven/Katarina (assassins basically) Exhaust is better on traditional supports like Soraka, Janna, Nami.

b. Learn matchups

If you are Vayne and Blitz vs. Janna and Caitlyn, well you're probably going to get shit on 100%. Prepare your anus. Play safe. Etc. Caitlyn is strong against Vayne pre-6 but Vayne can destroy Caitlyn post-6. So if you're playing Vayne against Caitlyn, wait for your level 6 since you'll be much stronger.

c. Learn your (ADC's) powerspikes

If you are playing Corki, the best time to teamfight is when you have a Triforce. Graves? BF Sword. ETC. ETC.

d. Respect enemy laner's damage

Check your enemy laner's items, especially for enemy ADC. Enemy Graves has BF sword while your Vayne has Vamp Scept? Then don't fight. Play safe.

e. Ward

When you go into lane, you don't really HAVE to ward mid river. Enemy jungler is probably doing camps and shit, so wait until like 3:30 / 4:00 into the game then ward.

f. Level 2 Advantage

When you go into lane, you need to help your ADC to shove the minion wave to ensure both of you hit level 2 first. Why level 2? Free combat stats, new skill to learn, when the enemy is stuck at level 1 with no new combat stats and only a skill to learn. Check your experience bar pls, know when you're going to hit level 2 first. I know no one in my ELO knows this level 2 advantage stuff, so I get so out of position and chunked the enemy laners when I hit 2 first and they just backed and decided not to punish me. I LOVE MY ELO

As a support, though, you'd want to CC either of the laner, and let your ADC to follow up.

g. Buy "support" items Mana regen? item 3222 (For peeling) Enemy team has AoE/a lot of Magic dmg? item 3190 Complete your first support item. item 3401 item 3092 item 3069

You shouldn't buy damage items on a support unless you're Velkoz Zyra support... (OH WAIT ARE THEY EVEN A SUPPORT?)

h. Ward. Ward. Ward.

I ward an average of 40 wards as a support. I don't know what to say but, yeah. It's really frustrating to have a support who buys item 3165 and doesn't ward and QQs when the team needs more wards and be like "IT'S NOT ONLY THE SUPPORT'S JOB TO WARD!" Jesus are you kidding me you don't even use your trinket...

Being a better than average support for your current MMR means you will win more games. That's all there is to it.

If you get too preoccupied with being the star of the show, you'll miss out on providing your team with what they actually need.

Edit: UNSWLoLSoc's Lecture 1, 7, and 10 will teach you the basics of support pretty well.

A few thoughts but i think it all comes down to being the shotcaller.

Tell your teammates when they need to be at dragon, ward it and always say in chat "drag in 30". In general you will be able to keep a closer eye on that than they will. Know when a drag can be taken and when you can't fight for it. Same goes for baron later.

Ping out where the enemy jungler is when you see him. Often your laners won't notice if he pops up for just a second.

Be the engage on your team. If you can play a leona or thresh for example and know what a good engage looks like you will be able to pick good fights. Generally look for a squishy target in front or a situation where you outnumber them and don't underestimate the power of their turrets if your team wants to turret dive. It might feel like an awkwardly long standoff at times, but a standoff is better than a bad engage.

When you support you normally want to counter pick or gimmick build/pick.

go annie or vel and get ap after sightstone

#1 tip for low elo: play a support that scales hard.

Don't play stuff that falls off like Leona (yes, she falls off late game compared to her mid-game since late game she can usually only lock down 1-2 targets), Sona and Soraka, because late game they're nothing. Don't play Annie either, even though she does damage, because her damage is too low ranged late game.

Instead you want to play stuff like Nautilus, Vel'Koz or Zyra, because they have either scaling damage that's good late game (long ranged damage combined with CC), amazing CC that is great in teamfights but limited in lane or scaling tankiness. That way, if you get fed as support, you are a huge threat, and now you have 5 threats on the team, vs. traditional supports who aren't really damage or CC threats.

u don't carry. even if u kill people u don't carry. you make plays. u lack the ad dmg to take out towers, u lack side lane pressure pushing. u kill people but cant do anything else afterwards, then what? kill someone get something. however supports do make plays they set up plays. isolate, interrupt, sustain and kite.

I;d learn when to pick the right support, like you may love Taric but if you against all ap its not gonna work well T_T

ALWAYS ward dragon and baron, ping any lanes with missing enemy or if you see the enemy jungler coming to gank a lane. Other than that, i find tanky and cc heavy supports like leona and thresh pretty easy to carry with.
