Support elixirs

Archon X··1 votes·659 views

A major flaw in my game is the use of elixirs. I am used to when you had the red one, the blue one, and the pink one (I think the green one was before my time).

Now they have 4 different types or something?

Under what circumstances, if any, would I use an elixir on a support? Specifically, Janna Leona Morgana Lulu Braum

Thanks.

I usually swap between elixir of iron and elixir of ruin. I usually take Ruin for the extra health and damage boost for my minions (especially when they're baron buffed.) Elixir of Iron is my next choice if I feel like I could live through their first couple hits while being CC'd.

Typically supports won't get elixirs since we almost never finish our item builds before the game ends.

Not being full build isn't an outright reason not to get elixirs. If you're team is ahead, why not get the elixir that gives everybody a movement speed boost of they're following you? For example, when you're braum or Leona, and you can initiate, it allows to your team to follow up quicker. Something like righteous glory is arguably better for that purpose, but say you had to rush an aegis and you don't even have the build path started for righteous. Getting the elixir is less potent, but you get that effect now instead of 10 minutes from now. When your team is ahead, being able to do those initiations with follow up "right now" is better than waiting For the other 80% of the gold you need for righteous. It helps your team STAY ahead instead of missing some initiation power and missing some oppurtunities. Because missed oppurtunities for your team means more oppurtunities for your opponents to play catch-up.

Ruin for pushing, Iron for extra tankiness (cool on Janna with captain and her passive), Sorcery for who the F cares I want some AP.
