A lot of Caitlyn questions; viability, etc

I don't play ADC (I don't play bot lane, and the only time I do is if I troll-adc with friends or go braum support with friends) I have little experience in bot lane and I think I finally found the ADC I've been looking for, which is Caitlyn (since many of the ADCs bore me, except corki but i hate his quotes and voice and I kinda like urgot but idk if the community classifies him as a ranged bot lane adc)

I asked my friends if caitlyn was good and they all said she wasn't a good ADC, and from what I read (2011 forums) she's a good early carry but falls off late game; is this still true today? Why is caitlyn a bad/"forgotten" adc? (Okay, she's not as forgotten as urgot adc)

Because I have almost zero experience in bot lane, I find that her kit is somewhat "good" but other people (who are experienced at bot lane) say its not the best kit and all that stuff so anyone mind explaining me why her kit is bad?

I even checked mobafire and theres either outdated builds from S4 or like months-old/incompleted caitlyn builds which leds me to think that she really is a bad adc but I wanna know the community's opinions on her

READ THE PORTION BELOW IF YOU WANT TO SKIP STRAIGHT TO THE QUESTIONS

  1. Is she viable?
  2. What is she best at? (Early, mid, late) and could you guys please elaborate?
  3. What items are best build on her?
  4. How good do you guys think her kit is?
  5. Is she worth maining?
  6. What supports do she synergies best with?
  7. What strategies do you guys use during laning phase?
  8. What is her role in teamfights? (Well, its a simple question cause i know she spams auto attacks and ults the low hp people but if theres anything else that she does during teamfights, please explain)
  9. Name some good places to put her traps during laning phase, and during mid/late game (and also add in some tips/tricks for her traps if you know any)

Thanks!

If you get super ahead, gg. I usually only play Ciatlyn when my one friend in particular is supporting. I go 20-2-10 and he goes 2-0-35 lol. She's a pretty decent lane bully but to play her well you have no know how to adc. First few times I played her I went like 0/6, literally, like 6 games in a row. Then I randomly played her one day and went 20-1 or something. She's decent imo, but only under gold5.

To answer your questions

  1. Fairly
  2. Depends on how you do. Cait behind is useless. Then you have to power farm to hell, get items and hope to last hit a few champs to get some gold.
  3. Standard ADC. (IE, Berserkers, Dancer in that order. Then you can go into things like Shiv, Last whisper, Bloodthirster, Guardian Angel. Depends how far ahead you are.)
  4. Decent. Long range Q, E can put you over walls and slow enemies. W is fairly forgettable, I dont use them unless I just decide to throw one down. I hate traps.
  5. There are better options but any champion is worth maining if it's worth it to you.
  6. Nami/Thresh/Morgana/Sona imo.
  7. Kill. Just deny farm, freeze lane near your tower if you want. Just bully with autos. If you wanna push the wave stand in one of the bushes to get your passive more often. Poke with Q.
  8. She can use her E to slow, throw down a trap or two, auto and kite, throw Qs.
  9. As I said I despise using traps. Dont play teemo, dont use them when I play Nidalee.. rarely use them on Cait except for random placements in team fight or dropping them behind u when running.

  1. Yep
  2. Early game... poking, get ahead early, and snowball your lead. She is always good for taking turrets because of her long range.
  3. Infinity Edge, Statikk Shiv or Phantom Dancer, Last Whisper, Bloodthirster or Blade of Ruined King, defensive item (QSS, Banshee Veil, Guardian Angel)
  4. It's pretty good. She has great poke and an escape. Plus she's good at executing fleeing targets.
  5. Sure, why not? She's my go-to ADC, and has gotten me up to Gold 2, so I'm a bit biased.
  6. She does best with poke supports or anything with good harass/engage in order to optimize her early game control. But she is really versatile in that there are no bad supports with her.
  7. Abuse your long range to poke the enemy ADC. It's practically a no-brainer. You out-range every ADC at level 1 (up to some point, then only Jinx/Tristana/Twitch/Kog will outrange you). They go for CS, you auto attack them.
  8. Same as any ADC, to provide DPS... that is to constantly hit the highest priority target that's closest to you. You are the main tank/bruiser killer.
  9. God I love traps. You MUST use them with Caitlyn or you are wasting half of her strength. Traps create zone control. One of my favorite places is at the edge of bushes (so they can't see them before they step into them when entering the bush). You also put them in the lane itself, usually to the side of the minions. If you notice the enemy ADC is staying around a certain part of lane to cs, put a trap there. They'll get super uncomfortable. Some people put a straight row of traps behind their minion wave. Some make a triangle. Pay attention to the zone you're creating because they don't want to go on the traps. If they DO step on a trap, auto attack and Q for some pain.

You have to make use of the traps throughout the game. Team doing dragon? Trap the bush in the river, trap the bush leading into the river, trap the ramp. Taking a turret? Trap to the side so the enemy can't comfortably walk up to defend. You can also E and trap at the same time/place, causing the enemy to be automatically trapped... makes for a great escape.

Other tricks: If your support has CC, like Blitz, Leona, Thresh... you can chain your traps with their CC. For example, if Blitz pulls someone, put a trap under him. They will get snared after the pull; now you get to have your way with them. Same idea in a teamfight - if any of your teammates land a CC, trap under the enemy for an extra snare.

I'm trying to learn Caitlyn, too. She's a good lane bully who can harass the enemy ADC for trying to farm because of her range (highest base range, only outranged by Tristana late game, Jinx with 5 points into her Q, Twitch ultimate, and Kog'Maw's range steroid). She has a good amount of utility and safety to her kit, too. She's good early and late game because of her range. Her abilities are just meh, so her mid game isn't that great.

Usually people build IE and PD as core, but I like building IE, BotRK, and then Runaan's Hurricane. Rushing Bork doesn't give you enough damage early on, so you should rush IE. Runaan's work really well with Caitlyn because each bolt recharges her passive. Late game, you'll proc your passive every two AAs, and every AA if you're in a bush. It usually makes up for the lost crit chance, and you can get Statikk Shiv later (which procs every 3~4 AA instead of 10 because of Runaan's). As last item I get a GA. I'm trying to fit in a Last Whisper in there, but I'm not sure what to take out.

What the community thinks of who you play and where is irrelevant if you want to adc urgot then do it. People think nocturne is a middle class champ. Right before i 1v3 them. Play who you want and aslong as you enjoy it youll make up what the champion lacks by knowing it very well

  1. Yes
  2. Early and late game. She falls off mid for some reason unless really fed. Her range lets her be a bully early and put down continuous DPS late.
  3. AS, crit, and AD.
  4. It's good except for the traps. They are definitely the weak point of her kit.
  5. You can success bot maining any of the ADCs.
  6. That's debatable. Personally I think poke supports work best since you can really bully the other team out of lane.
  7. Farm and poke. It's pretty simple.
  8. Do as much damage as possible on the enemy team prioritizing the biggest threat if possible.
  9. It's definitely best to place them on the edge of bushes where enemies normally enter first. That way the enemy doesn't see them until the hit it. Definitely have one in each lane bush and one in the river bush during laning. Mid/late game it's good to place them at the entrance to baron or dragon and any choke point.
