When NOT to get sight Stone?

I feel too hard in love with sight stone. The wards vanish after a few min, and I love placing them to see everything. Problem is I love them too much and always want to build them for the wards and hp boost. i. Leaning phase though I do not get sight stone as add or top, and It real makes me sad as I want to ward. But it seems so useful for midline to check for banks both sides, support to avoid all ganks, jungle to lighten up the jungle, and even top when leaning phase is over to help watch movement. So I am wondering when are the proper times to not get sightstone

Honestly, the ONLY time it is bad to get a sightstone is when you need more damage/tank as a non support over wards, if not, there is no real downside to getting a sightstone.

You mean you feel like you want to get Sightstone regardless of which role you're playing? You should not get Sightstone if you're in a primarily damage dealing role since the team needs to count on you to spend your gold towards your actual role. You should always buy green and pink wards regardless of role though. Learn to adapt this thing.

When you don't play the vision game (i.e. support), obviously.

This is pretty correct. I'll explain some of the reasons why.

All of the things you were saying you love about sightstone

But it seems so useful for midline to check for banks both sides, support to avoid all ganks, jungle to lighten up the jungle, and even top when leaning phase is over to help watch movement.

This is not actually sightstone that provides these advantages. Sightstone provides wards, and wards provide vision. The difference is that wards take up an item slot temporarily, while sightstone is a permanent purchase (yes you can sell it back but at greatly reduced value).

When playing you want to itemize for what you should be doing. So an ADC wants to output consistent damage, so you don't generally want to spend 800 - 1600 gold in one lump sum getting a item 2049 (item 2045 ) when you could get an item such as a item 3031. This is because spending a chunk of gold that big can significantly delay your build and power spikes, whereas to buy a ward every few minutes a player in a farming role (not support) can just last hit a few minions (clear a jungle camp) and buy a ward.

However, since supports generally use utility in teamfights, not raw power, they help the team by generally providing extra wards and more vision. Making the sightstone a value purchase as it provides wards which are part of a supports general purpose.

Other roles should be warding, but not generally warding as much as a support. They should focus item slots on bolstering their performance in the part of the game that they are supposed to shine in.

Some exceptions occur according to playstyle. For example, LeeSin can get item 2049 just fine as he does a lot of going deep into enemy territory and uses ward hopping as an escape and turns into more of a general disruptor as the game goes forward. However, you don't generally see Katarina build one as she is more concerned with bursting down enemies and needs to build towards damage with chunks of gold. So she will purchase wards at 75g a hit so that she can utilize her ward hop and still focus her build on being a bursting mage.

This is the general idea, you want items to support your playstyle and what you need to be doing on the team. I can ward up tons of the map as an adc, but if this prevents me from doing any damage then I have sacrificed my team usefulness.

Hopefully I explained this well!

Alright then, vision illuminati for me then, but question on pink wards: where are good bushes to put them in to have them not get destroyed so often? It breaks my heart!

If everyone would place 1 pink down... The game is a win. If I have vision on you and you don't have vision on me who will win? Its essential for people to buy wards. Almost every low player focuses on damage, because they have an ego to be the best, but being the best in a team game is to use the team to your advantage. Whoever scores vision first is usually the winner.

I can't say when NOT to get but I can say the other way around Buy sightstone when

  1. You're supporting
  2. You are a utility/tank jungler like NUNUNUNU, AMUMUMUMUMU (well optional), MaoKai, Nautilus, etc.
  3. You are Lee Sin (WARD HOP)
  4. You are a really tanky utility based tank and you want to help your team to get vision (MaoKai...)

I don't recommend you buying sightstone if you're an ADC or APC, since your main job is to deal damage and not die.
