I need a new mid.

I'm looking for a sleeper pick for the mid lane. My current pool is Anivia morde rumble Diana and cho.

I'm not interested in Leblanc, zed, talon, ahri etc.

I love playing champions people aren't used to. No one plays rumble Morde or Anivia in my Elo.

Is galio viable mid? Feelings on karma, xerath, velkoz? I'm silver 4 by the way.

Karma is fun and a lane bully. If they have never seen her before they are in for a rude awakening, lol. She's not super strong mid-late game and her role as a utility mage tends to hold her back if your teammates are dumb. But she is probably the best utility mage for low ELO. You can't really use a shield /speed boost improperly.

Xerath has so much range. But he isn't uncommon in the mid lane so there's less surprise value. If you got good aim and they are immobile you got an edge. But since he is immobile himself he is dependent on having allies who are able to peel effectively. If a teammate picks Alistar, Janna or Lee Sin that should give you a lot of safety in this. Can grow to be a hyper carry.

Vel'koz won't surpise people either. He gets played plenty times as a support in low ELO by those people who hate supporting. His abilities are indeed unique though. He pretty much has the same setup as Xerath: Long range and immobile. I just feel like Vel'koz packs more power at the cost of range.Vel'koz also works better with wombo combo setups the silver ELO is all too happy to abuse.

My suggestions:

Pantheon used to be a season 2 mid laner pick. He is mana dependent and despite being short ranged is a lane bully. His ult allows him to make a grand entrance into the bot lane and his full combo of QWaaEQ can seriously instagib someone. He's kind of like a mix between an AD assassin/AD bruiser. I enjoy him mid lane more than I do top lane.

Malzahar isn't all too uncommon mid lane but played properly there realm isn't much he cannot do. His ult is a great 11 tool that sets up ganks superbly. Late game his E allows him to split push minion waves with ease. If you like making the enemy mid laner feel useless then Malzahar is the guy for you! Oh and he hard counters Zed. If Zed ults you Q right on top of yourself then ult him for laughs. If he is still alive E him and walk away as I nothing ever happened :)

Lastly is Lulu mid. Despite her being a support she is also a lane bully. She shuts down the popular assassin choices:Akali, Katarina, Zed, and LeBlanc. Just like Karma she is a utility mage but Lulu is much more adept at peeling and poking. But Karma is tankier. She's funny in my opinion.

And Galio is viable mid but he's more of an anti-mage than an actual mid laner. Level up W and force trades. Heal off minion aggro. Laugh as spells do no damage to you. And mid/late game flash ult the enemy team to wombo combo them.

Galio can be viable mid its just hard, and you pick him into another ap player. I enjoy playing Xerath and he can be a good pick in the meta. Have you thought about Brand?

I love my Cassiopeia. Her early power spike helps shut down enemy lanes so easily if you know what you're doing. Late game, I've been able to take down squishies in around 3 hits with my E. 1000 AP gets to be insane if they don't have any MR, and since a lot of players at your ELO haven't faced her much, I think she's freelo waiting to happen if you take the time to learn her. She's one of those high risk/high reward champs because mistakes with Cassio are so unforgiving. Miss poison, and you're useless. Again, though, she might be worth it considering how few people play her.

Viktor has also been a fun one for me. Much more forgiving and another champ with a ridiculous power spike early. Oddly enough, no one plays him compared to a lot of midlane champs. Another possible freelo champ.

Syndra was my first main. She has a late power spike compared to the other two I listed. (level 3 with Cass/after the first 1k+ gold back with Vik/level 9 with Syndra) She's another relatively unforgiving champ with a pretty tough combo, but she melts people really quick after level 9.

I hope this helps!

So... I got one who is so sleepy not even you noticed him:

Swain

He is one of the least played champions out there, and an incredibly underrated one. Hes extremely snowbally, once you get 2-3 kills, you can solo most enemies, and with RoA + Zhonyas you will be just running around and collecting free triples.

Pros:

  • Quite tanky & awesome sustain (both health and mana)
  • Very surprising and underestimated pick
  • High single target pseudo burst
  • Good dps
  • Absolutely INSANE lanebully versus champions with equal or longer range (especially assassins)
  • Very snowbally; carries games easily
  • Bird

Cons:

  • Low range
  • Reliant on snowballing; has a hard time coming back
  • Can be kited pretty easily
  • Not easy to pick up and stomp
  • Ult can drain mana very quickly
  • No escapes
  • No hard CC (besides death
  • Grievous wound counter him (but not as hard as some would assume)

Hes one of my favorite champs and you can definitely carry yourself up in SoloQ. I hope you try him out and like him (dont be worried about the amount of cons - most of them are not very strong).

Swain is a hard counter to Vlad I should point out. Swain is weak against mobile assassins and Vlad is weak against tanky sustain/DoT champions.
