Ap Amumu Carrying!

Hello everyone!

Amumu This guild will go over the pro/cons, and how to play AP Amumu in the jungle. Some may consider this off meta, but it has actually been really common among Amumu players for a long time. The reason one would want to go AP over tank on Amumu is simple, he really isn't comparable to many tanks when it comes to, well tanking... Many people may now be thinking WHAT! Amumu is a great tank, but what a lot of people don't understand is that tanking has very little to do with stats. The majority of what makes a tank tanky, is their crowd control. If one were to compare how tanky a Maoki is to an Amumu with a full tank build, Mao wins by far.

This doesn't mean that Amumu should never be built as tank, as in some scenarios, such as against a full AD team, building full tank is usually better.

So Pro vs con:

#Pros

  • Enough damage to burst down unsuspecting carries.
  • Really fast clear times due to higher damage.
  • Integrates Rylies Crystal Scepter into build for the slow.
  • Can bring magic damage into a team that may have lots of AD.
  • Very enjoyable gameplay!
  • Has CDR so you have ult each teamfight through the game.

#Cons

  • You become a mage, making you fragile.
  • May leave your team without a tank.
  • Early dragon solos can be nearly impossible with this buildpath.

#Runes

For runes I have been using

  • Flat armor marks
  • Flat armor seals
  • Flat AP glyphs
  • Flat AP Quints

Which looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/KRDyZzC.jpg

This gives me the extra armor that allows for a full clear on the first path, as well as AP for clearing faster.

Masteries

21/9/0 for lots of damage, and enough defense to assist your jungle clearing. http://i.imgur.com/OncTIPF.jpg .

#Sumner spells

summoner 4 and summoner 11 Taking anything else just doesn't work for Amumu jungle. .

#Game play

Your early game will be a bit focused on farming. Start at the bottom jungle with your e, smiting the first camp with a leash from your bot lane. Grab your w and go to your second camp killing the big one first using a health pot as you fight it. When you do your second camp as Amumu you are very vulnerable to counter junglers like Lee Sin, place your trinket to see him incoming!

Once you finish your second camp, move on to your 3rd camp. As you approach enable your w. You will need to use your second health pot for this, Auto a small one, then cast your e to cancel the animation so you can attack a different small raptor. Begin autoing the big monster, regardless of if it is raptors or wolves, letting your aoe damage from your w and e finish off the smalls. I prefer to grab a second point in e here, allowing me to stay healthier during my 4th camp.

Do the same for the 4th camp, w-auto-e-auto- and then a mixture of e's and autos, being sure to use your e immediately after you auto for efficiency.

Now you should be at your 2nd buff camp, again enable your w as you get nearby and auto a small, using e right after the auto. Leave the second small monster and being to focus down on the big monster that holds the buff. If you are on the blue side you should be able to hold on to your smite to use on gromp, but on the Red/Purple side use your smite on red to heal yourself up.

If you have smite on your final camp, use it at the start and then go through the regular process of w-auto-e-auto-q-auto-e- etc.

That was your first clear, you should have about 800 gold. I like to go chilling smite for the burst damage, but if you are getting heavy pressure by the enemy jungle you should probably go for rangers trailblazer for the sustain. With the remaining gold take a pink, a green, and 2 health pots. Don't go boots as the wards are more important.

Go to your botside camp, if on the blue team, smite the camp for the stunning on 5 autos buff thing. This will keep from taking a lot of damage. Move to your second camp, and then to the river. If you think the gank is really easy, go for it. otherwise just place your pink in the small bush. Pro -tip, the cursor will turn green if it is in the bush, and put it as close to dragon while still in this bush as possible.) If scuttle is up, take it.

Taking the long route as to not give yourself away, go to your next closest camp in the previous order. From there go to the river ( not the one you were just in, and place your green ward in the small bush, and taking scuttle if you can.) Again, if you can gank mid, do it.

Otherwise go to top, place your trinket ward for your top laner and gank if it is easy. If not, go to your last camp in line and back afterwards.

Everything after the divider in the steps above you will basically repeat. Bot can be really hard to gank, so getting mid fed and letting them roam is usually better. If the enemy top laner is getting ganked, having rangers trailblazer smite allows you to solo drag so look out for that.

Build

The build can be very game dependent. Core: item 3708item 3158item 3361 item 2044 item 2043 item 2003 This gives you a nice chunk of cdr, allowing you to have your ult up often, and enabling you to clear fast.

For Burst: item 3089item 3116item 3151item 3135item 2139<-- Late game killing machine!

Hybrid tank/mage: Better for early pressure. item 3725item 3027 item 3116item 3001item 3075item 2137 ROA can be replaced with item 3151 .
