Build Gunblade, not Will of the Ancients

Sorry for the original post being pure flame, making me look like a complete ass in hindsight. Didn't know I was coming off as trying to sound 31337 or pro. I am not, I am a B5 but I'm an expert analyst. I know I would get owned by high gold, diamond and challengers in game, but I would own them in strategizing on paper. Alas, here is my reasoning for my troll post bashing item 3152 which I jokingly referred to as Wipe on the Ass.

item 3152 gives you 80 ability power, 10% CD reduction and 15% spell vamp item 3146 gives you 40 attack damage, 80 ability power, 10% life steal, 20% spell vamp

WOTA is all around an inferior item, because you're going to get your CD from item 3065 item 3110 and if you're building spell vamp, it probably means you plan on surviving trades long enough to use your abilities again anyway.

The absolute only positive about WOTA is the spell vamp applies before magic resist, meaning you get full heal even from an MR tank without doing the actual damage. Outside of this, WOTA is completely useless.

Now let's talk about item 3146 and why it's superior in every aspect, making WotA an item that shouldn't ever be built.

1st let's cover the active that deals 150 plus 40% of your ability power in magic damage and slows the champion by 40% for 2 seconds. This alone is more than a reason to never build a WotA. Mobile champs are pretty popular and this stop escapes plus secures kills. I've had low health champs flash away and killed them with the damage from the active under their turret and didn't even take a turret blast (the active has excellent range).

Then we get to the fact that it has the 40 AD with 10% life steal, every champ AAs and that little bit of life steal can be the difference between you being slain and you leaving the engagement with 40 health.

Then you get the item 3065 which makes your life steal 12% and my spell vamp 24%. If you're using a mêlée AP (1 champ that I personally do this with is Ekko ) is building a item 3124 after my item 3065 item 3157 item 3026 . Effectively making my life steal 22% and my spell vamp 34% (or 41.2% if I'm using my SV quints).

Honestly, item 3152 is no more effective than item 3145, so any champ you thought about building a WotA for, build the item 3145 , finish your build, then upgrade the HR to item 3146

The one and only champ I can see that has a usage for item 3152 is Vladimir because the healing ignores MR which makes Vladimir item 3083 item 3065 item 3068 item 3027 item 3152 item 3020 summoner 7 invincible , but if you're using any champ except Vladimir , item 3146 is the way to go.

On paper, I still think rushing HR would be more beneficial to Vlad, then building it into GB late game, but I can't say for sure because I haven't tried it. I'll come back to this post when I do because I think GB's active would allow me to get close to and kill an ADC in a team fight.

I did read your first post lol.

Anyway,

WOTA is almost 1k cheaper than Gunblade. That's why. When you need spell vamp as your first item, you need it fast and 1k gold is not that easy to come by without kills. Gunblade is absolutely far more cost efficient but it is still that extra 900 gold.

Not to mention WOTA allows you to prioritize item 3108 during a second backing. Gunblade forces you to buy the full upgrade on almost everyone because the base stats of cutlass are wasted.

In cases like Vladimir you want as much as you can, as fast as you can so WOTA is a far more favorable choice. I do agree if everyone is nearing full build and you have some extra CDR from other items, you can consider selling WOTA for Gunblade purely for the stats. But the build path/early cost is why many champions build WOTA.

Building gunblade first is like telling a dps mage to buy item 3116 as their first item, especially over something like item 3165 . You know, while you're farming with Rylai the enemy has come back with tons of extra AP and they just are gonna be so much stronger than you for so long.

WotA is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, it's spell vamp disregards MR (MUCH better for tanky champs who don't build much Mpen or when facing a tanky opponent), and half the time, the extra gold you sink into Gunblade are for wasted stats (AD and Lifesteal, which only Akali and Morde really make any use of regularly).

If it works for you, that's great, but I doubt it is really quite as effective as you think it is.

An expert analyst?

So from what I am gathering from post, your build for Ekko is Gunblade, Spirit Visage, Zhonya's Hourglass, Guardian Angel, and Rageblade? Everything about this screams troll, even though you have all those numbers behind it.

Good luck on your climb.

Literally no reason to build gunblade on champions that aren't jax, akali or mordekaiser. Vlad wants the cdr, cheaper cost and the healing to not be reduced by mr and is the only viable user of wota.
