I keep trying this in team builder, but keep getting kicked. Talon is one of my favorite champions and I jungling is where I succeed the most. So I've been wanting to combine the two. Is this something that just doesn't work, or people are just unaware that he can jungle?
He's in the assassin category with Rengar, Kha'zix, Shaco and Evelynn so I don't see why he can't fit right in.

It's doable, as are champs like Katarina and Akali, but he lacks the tankiness and CC that most teams want as a jungler.
In your bot games are you having success using him in the jungle?
By your logic, Katarina, Akali, and Zed should be able to jungle because they're in the assassin category too.
When it comes down to jungling, moveset is key. Eve has a low cooldown aoe attack and attack speed buffs. Rengar has a heal, defensive buff, and attack speed buff. Shaco has the boxes and has a neutral monster debuff.
Talon doesn't have any heals, attack speed buffs, defensive buffs, attack damage buffs, or low cooldown aoe. Not to mention his costs are fairly high so he will be highly reliant on blue buff.
Honestly you could try it, but I don't think it's that great an idea. If you want to play an assassin in jungle just go with what you already mentioned. Master Yi also works but he's more of a melee carry than an assassin.
It was more of a thing last season, where I did pull it off. It was a lot of fun, but then Riot went full retard with this jungle. We're out of pre-season and they still haven't reached their goal of 4 jungle play styles.
Just played a game as jungle Talon, very very slow start! Couldn't even consider ganking until level 6, very effective at that point though and no other enemy jungler stands a chance after level 6, maybe Kha'zix, but everybody else falls quickly!
Problem is, you have to had a good enough laning team to not get steamrolled before level 6. Then after that, you carry them to victory.
Its possible. I usually take Q level 1 since you can auto attack cancel and its on a shorter cooldown then w and does more damage early. But, if you get behind lol, goodluck coming back cause you ain't ever coming back.
