Lux Help

I like to play Lux even though she can be out classed by the other mages, but I find her kit fun. I have an issue with how to build her properly though. If I am against AD i tend to rush Zhonya's and I go oom often. If I rush mana regen i get nuked (Stupid Zeds) Vs AP is a bit of an easier match up as I can safely rush an athenes. One thing I do need to work on is her auto attacks cause her small wind up causes me to miss a lot of cs. If anyone has any tips it would be greatly appriciated :D Lux DEMACIA!

I don't know how good my advice is as I haven't played Lux mid seriously since season 3, but I can say that rushing zhonyas is pretty dangerous unless you get ahead. However I was a Lux main for a long time so I still think my advice can be helpful. My advice is, item 1058 too expensive to save for, but if you skimp and get the item 3191 you will do almost no damage for a long time. I'd only prioritize item 3157 if you can get the large rod first/early, otherwise it is more important to get at least 1-2 core items, such as item 3165 and item 3020 at the very least...

This is what I would suggest if you want to survive high damage/burst mids early. If it doesn't work for you, ask a mid main, but this has worked for me in the past.

Start#1) If worried about harass, start item 2041 item 2003 if you want to TRADE rather than take free poke. With this build it is worth it to TRADE if you can get them out of lane. This only works because you will have more sustain than them, so if done correctly you can in theory force them to b or at least hug turret because you have more potions. Don't forget to utilize your shield and also your passive to reduce your damage taken and increase damage done to your opponent. You'd be surprised how easy you can poke someone down. Keep in mind you wont have a lot of early damage and kill potential will be lower. If you can kill, great, but your goal is only to outsustain and push them out of lane. Do not die or this is absolutely not worth.

Alternatively, you can also go item 1001 item 2003 if you want try and to DODGE skillshots. Less risky if you can utilize mspd to dodge and stay in lane.

Start #2) If your opponent has easy to dodge poke pre-6 (Zed's q's aren't too hard, for example) I would advise to just start the standard item 1056. At first back get item 1056 item 1076 item 2003 if possible. This isn't ALWAYS advisable but a mid with shield + barrier + 2-3x item 1056 is hard to burst down in one combo unless you're cc'd to death/ganked. Even then you can usually flash out of a bad situation.

Anyway this is becoming a novel, so here's some advice before I go:

  1. Invest in a pink and ward near the river or your jungle entrance. Hug that side if you do not know where the enemy jungler is.

  2. Do not spam/waste QW. A lot of good enemy midlaners/junglers will wait (or even try and bait) for you to waste your cc before they all-in you, plus if you use them too much you will be oom all the time and may as well be dead.

  3. In addition to #2, learn to lane without blue buff. It is your jungler's discretion to give it to you. He does not have to. It is OK to shield to reduce damage taken to farm if you need to go closer, but you are ranged, so try to use it to your advantage.

  4. Ping mia's and pay attention to mia's. Can't emphasize this enough. If enemy Leona has been MIA for a while, there is a good chance she is waiting to gank you. If enemy mid starts acting weird (more aggressive or stops pushing lane as hard, or even stands in obvious way of an easy Q) then it's a pretty clear indicator that he's trying to bait you.

Hope that helped.

don't go straight into zhonyas just rush a seekers. Then get morellos or athenes.

You have some options, vs ADs, I find it to be good to get Double item 1056 along with item 3191 and sit on that until you get item 3165 , then you can finish item 3157

For an overall build though, having 40% CDR is really strong on Lux, as it allows you to ult as often as possible; so running 5% CDR from masteries, getting Athene's vs AP or Morello vs AD plus CDR boots will give you a quick 40%, then you can build all 3 120 AP items, and a Void Staff.

item 3174 or item 3165 | item 3158 | item 3285 |item 3157 | item 3089 | item 3135

The order in which you buy the 120 AP items depends on the game, if you're getting focused, get Zhonya's first, if you're teamfighting a lot, Rabadon's may be the best way to go, but Luden's procs can destroy teamfights as well. You can Void Staff earlier if they have a lot of MR early on.

In lane you have no choice but to be play it safe versus assassin mids (freeze lane if possible, farm with abilities if last hit is too dangerous, ward). Stuff like Kat/Zed/Akali can 100 --> 0 you fast but if you don't let them you're going to be more useful to your team then they are to theirs later. Lux is strong in poke and if you position well, team fights because she can rack up a lot of burst AP damage, shield teammates, and root someone. When you're not in danger of getting insta-gibbed mid-land you can use her passive to hit pretty hard.

Itemwise I don't like early Zhonya's on her. Zhonya's is for champs that get into the thick of things and need to survive it while doing damage, so you'd get it on champs like fiddlesticks. But with Lux, you don't want to be in a position where Zhonya's is useful, because none of her abilities require that position. Still, if you're doing well the enemy team might dive you so it's a useful item, just not something to rush IMO. I'd rather get stuff that helps AP/CDR and mana regen early.

As an aside, I find her fun to run as a support too. As long as you're not screwing ADC with shoving with E spellthief's works okay on her (best is hitting both champs), and her bind/shield is only a small downgrade from Morg's. Regardless of where you take her though, keep in mind that she's a cc/poke champ that shields allies + dishes damage in teamfights, and needs absolute focus on your positioning. Also, don't always save laser as a finisher, sometimes early in teamfights you'll get a line of 3-5 enemy champs...take that shot if you can because it's a lot of damage and can alter the outcome of the fight.
