tell him to take a break (sometimes, this is all a person needs). after the break, play a few games for fun. if those go badly, then he needs practice and to improve. if he plays ranked, he should have about 50% win rate, unless he's climbing or falling, which it still will go to 50% about after enough time.

best of luck.

Essentially how this game works is : You learn and improve--> You start to crush --> Your MMR(Match making rating) increases --> In turn you receive better opponents --> You start to get crushed --> You learn and improve --> You start to crush and rinse and repeat all the way to challenger :O

The trick is to play in a lot of ways just one step ahead of the other players in your game. Sure in things that don't require teammates to help you do them you can go crazy doing the best you can with. But others just try to bring down to their level.

Have him take a break from Normals or Ranked and just do some games against Bots for the easy wins. Having just a few wins, even if it's just bots, always helps me feel better when I'm on a losing streak.
