Theory Crafting- Amumu top

How do people feel it would work? I play a crap ton of malphite, and realized that they actually have quite similar kits and a tank mummy top could work quite well. What do you guys think?

Max E and get early sunfire, insta-clear waves and then gank lanes, go back top and just scale become huge engage threat later??

What are your thoughts? Might be a bit weak vs ranged, since unlike malphite he cant trade without getting in melee form, but if it isnt someone crazy, it could 100% work i feel. What are your thoughts!?

I have played it before. I imagine he would struggle with any sort of heavy DPS like Riven Renekton

Could do well facing hard assassinations Rengar Akali

Mediocre facing other AP Chogath Maokai due to general lack of kill potential everywhere except Swain who is a monster to you

Above average doing Aatrox Lissandra Shen who have some damage but never enough to kill you.

Recommendations: Tanky AP items, 1 engagement item (speed), Sunfire

Probably better in the jungle, but he is likely good at early trading (tantrum passive means he can fight in minion waves and take a lot less damage), and he has solid all-in power at level 3 and level 6 (level 3 for a Q>W>E combo and then follow up damage, likely to force your opponent out of lane if not kill them if they were low, and 6 for basically the same thing but with his R as well for more guaranteed W damage). He would be very easy to gank for, similar to nautilus or malphite, and as always scales excellently into the late game (I would recommend picking up some tanky AP if solo laning so that you have more kill pressure and take advantage of your higher gold income as a top laner, possibly RoA/Righteous glory, Rylai's, Liandry's, etc.). Once you hit 6 you'd probably want to get your roam on with either teleport or an old fashioned gank.

His mana wouldn't be too big of an issue since you wouldn't need to use too many abilities unless hard pushing the wave, and you shouldn't be using Q except for an all-in. The largest downside I see is that he has no reliable way to escape a gank.

it might work i might go try it also rammus might work to as he can gank mid and be back to his lane quick

Hmm he doesn't have much sustain though and is a bit heavy on mana, not sure how he would do also trading against someone like renek or riven but he could probably be a really good threat if he survives. Teleport for drag fights and 5 man ult would turn the tide of a game!

Amumu's pretty squishy before you get any items and he doesn't have any way to farm from range, so you'll probably have a lot of trouble early on in most matchups, but if you can roam effectively and keep from falling behind it might work. I'd definitely recommend getting some kind of mana sustain though, that little dude is mana hungry as hell.

I think Amumu is better off in the jungle
