Well Brand has quite the win rate right now as support. I took him for a spin in an unranked and was surprised by how much damage he does - I blame that epic passive of his.
Is anyone experienced with him at reasonable elo (gold+) and have any advice regarding his counters or builds?

Really? I thought his has crappy CC and unreliable one at that?
I may not be gold, but the build I'd go with is this.
Then I look for situational items I look at 
You may be playing brand support, but you're still a support. Vision is important, and if you're team could use an Aegis grab it up, if your team doesn't need it and your ADC is pretty good, or another person that could benefit from Zeke's grab that, it's got a pretty good AP pop for you, and your auto attacks now crit half the time when your spells are on cooldown. Otherwise you've got void and abyssal to consider. If you're in late game, full build, and in no need of the GP10 item any longer, you can swap it out for one of the other items you didn't grab.
