Brand in Top? Also, Brand as a Tank-Mage?

Hey there, Master Fledgling here.

Brand's cool. I mean hot. But not like that, I date women.

Um. Uh.

Okay from the top. Actually, IN the top. Nailed it. Brand has a sweet passive that lets his E make tanks cry ever couple of seconds when you get your CDR up to snuff -- so much so that it makes me wonder if he'd be at home in the top lane. Wave clear? Check. Poke? Check. CC and damage for teleport shenanigans? Check.

In fact, Brand does SO much damage just from his passive plus a Liandry's that I wonder if you cant build him pure tank save for Liandry's. Now that Frozen Heart causes the double proc on Liandry's, you don't need that Riylai's, though it's still a fine item on him. His burst damage might not be as good, but now he's not immediately blown up if he gets caught out, can send out multiple rotations of his spells at his leisure, probably half life-ing everyone on the enemy team just from a percentage perspective.

Let me know what you think and if this has any merit or not.

Long time Brand player.. Right now Ludens / Liandrys is pretty mean on him.

Ludens applys liandrys, and procs off his passive, meaning you can apply your passive on people then run around / cast on nothing to build up to 100% and proc a ludens proc, which in turn reapplies Liandrys.

Id say with the tank meta shift and assassins falling out of favor, Brand is still more favorable in mid lane. There are of course better picks, but hes just as strong at burning peolpe as hes always been, with even more burst from a Ludens 1st item rush. (Which also helps his wave clear + removes the needs to rush a mana item, as W + Ludens = caster creep 100% Clear.)

I'd play Wukong / Pantheon / Renekton / Jax / Irelia / Fiora / Riven / Lee sin / Tryndamere and just Dash +Hit, I'd push the wave early, chug a few pots, then level 2 Cheese you. Your going to have a hard time against anyone with a gap closer, that deals any damage.

I can see it maybe working against Shyvana, Or maokai. the 8% max health is pretty strong. (Even then if they out sustain your mana, and rush a spirit visage and merc treads.)

Brand is really rough in top lane because his self peel is so weak. His range is very good against someone like Darius but if anyone jumps him he lacks the kind of disengage found in Lulu or even other mages like Morgana or Annie.

I prefer tanky jungle Brand over top Brand. Just get Magus and Liandry's and you melt everything, and then you can go for either spell vamp (because it actually works quite well on a spammy CDR Brand) or more tanky items for your durability.
