Dem Matchups....Episode 1
Janna vs Thresh
The point of this little discussion is to help people against some of the more common matchups that come up in league and ways for each side to deal with it. Feel free to add your own tips, input, and feedback. I want this forum to spread. (I was silver I last season so please don't take all of my suggestions to heart. This is purely based on my experiences).
In my opinion, this is one of the most even bottom lane matchups out there. Neither side completely dominates and comebacks are completely possible.
How to play this as the Janna
- You have strong utility and disengage, but are super squishy and do close to no damage. If you don't shield, you WILL lose trades since his autoattacks HURT.
- You have a slight aa range advantage, but it is practically negligible. Like I said before, he wins AA trades.
- If you shield your ADC, however, they will almost always outdamage the enemy ADC. If you have a long range ADC like
or
and shield their autoattacks for quick trades, thresh cannot retaliate at all. This is key to winning. - It is imperative that you DODGE HOOKS. Unlike some of thresh's matchups like
or
, he can grab you or your ADC without fear. This lets his ADC wail on you and chain cc. You almost NEVER win this trade unless you are extremely far ahead. - Getting hooked almost guarantees burned summoner spells, a zoned lane, or death.
- It is possible to knockup thresh when he is traveling to you on his grab, but the timing is tricky and not very reliable.
- If your ADC gets grabbed (oh boy....) shield him immediately to negate some initial burst. Use your tornado on both of them to interrupt them briefly and if things get bad, exhaust and slow the enemy ADC. If you cannot tornado both of them, prioritize knocking up the enemy ADC. In most cases, the knockup alone will prevent 2 extra aa's and minimize the damage the your ADC takes more than delaying thresh's combo.
- If you get grabbed (yikes!) you could be in a lot of trouble. I find that if you are grabbed the best idea is to fight fire with fire. Tell your ADC that if YOU get grabbed you are going in. Shield yourself asap to minimize damage. Slow the enemy ADC and knockup both of them (unlike before, you are in a range where it is pretty simple to knock them both up). Almost always you will need to exhaust the enemy ADC.
- Whenever you see thresh throw his lantern behind him........DROP EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING AND RUN!
- At level 6, thresh will attempt to hook someone, flay them in, and use his ultimate to trap the victim in as long as possible (its a long time believe me). Your job will be to disrupt this dangerous combo at the proper time to ensure you or your ADC do not fall. Using Monsoon when the enemy ADC is wailing on him without retaliation is the best time to ultimate. If he already used flay, channel the ultimate.
- If the thresh is over-zealous on his combo, you can turn the tables on him. If he combos on your side of the lane, use your monsoon in front of thresh, but BEHIND the ADC. If successful, you will push thresh into your turret and the enemy ADC out of the fight, effectively separating them and guaranteeing burned summoners on thresh's part.
- If thresh's ADC is caught out and thresh uses his lantern to pull them to safety, it is wise to monsoon the ADC while they are traveling to thresh. If successful, the enemy ADC is thrown back into the fray. In addition, thresh is too far away to help his ADC further and it almost guarantees their death.
*I personally am not a big fan of Thresh
, and therefore do not think that it is reliable information for me to give Janna counter-tips for him. IF YOU ARE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THRESH WELL...PROVIDE WHATEVER ADVICE THAT YOU CAN. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
As always, good luck guys, post feedback, and give your own tips on thresh or janna if I missed something.
