So I finally hit Silver on Saturday, but it didn't feel as sweet as is ought have. With Season 5 starting soon, was my time wasted ranking up in the off season, or has my mmr been raised enough that I won't get placed in B5 no matter what?
You could probably be placed in b5, yeah. If you lose every single one of your placements. But really, it doesn't matter. You made it there because you got good enough to get there. No matter where you're placed after the reset, it won't take too many games before you reach the league/division that reflects your skill level.
From my experience last season, I ended season 3 b1, went about 6/4 in placements and got placed in b1. Busted my ass and got to p5 by the end of season. So I would say if your s5 and manage to only win 2 placements your looking at b4-5.
