Or is she just impossible to play. I mean I really love her as a champion but It seems no matter what way I build her ad, ap, hybrid, tank shes just useless as soon as it hits mid game and falls off for the rest of the match. So am I missing something or has she really been gutted that badly?
Trinity Force is a must if you want to be a threat to squishies.

AP gives better early power spikes because you get more AP than AD for the gold, AD scales better once you start maxing E because of the AS steroid. You want Sheen/Mana Crystal around level 9, as that is the point where mana problems can occur and it prevents them.
The important thing to keep in mind is that since she needs defense to not die before contributing to fights, you do not get much in the way of multiplicative scaling going. This means items like TForce and BotRK that do not really scale off other items are better picks.
