How to SUPPORT
This is probably my favorite role to play as in LOL, but its not exactly the easiest.
First of all, of course by what it's called, you need to support your teammates. Usually your adc in the bot lane.
Here are the very basic things you do as support:
1.) Heal, boost your ad carry and everyone else 2.) If you're using a cc. (crowd control) stun as much as you can for a kill for your adc when in teamfights or anywhere basically. 3.) Do not farm a lot, also don't take kills, rather give them to your allies if possible. 4.) Stay with your allies, doing a 1v1 with someone else who ISNT a support. Might result to a death for you. 5.) Give a lot of vision for your team. Plant as much wards as you can to avoid ganks for you and your adc.
Here are the champions :
Blitzcrank - His hook is very useful. Bassically grab someone and hes a goner. Difficulty - Easy
Bard - Nuff' said. Magical journey. Difficulty - Hard
Alistar - Build him to be a tanky support and push. Difficulty - Medium
Lulu - You can also mid with lulu. But her w e and r abilities are good for helping allies. Difficulty - Medium
Janna - Build on AP for her, and exhaust would be perfect. Difficulty - Easy
Morgana - Her q can stun individually which is very useful. And she can farm, so you can also mid with her. Difficulty - Easy
Sona - Probably the most played champ in solo que for support, Sona can do a lot. Heal. Deal damage. Boost. Difficulty -** Easy**
Thresh - His death sentence to me is a lil' like blitz's q except thresh's is not an auto pull. His lantern is important for saving allies too. U can see thresh in a lot of games in Worlds and obviously his impact is large. Making him my fav champ. Difficulty - Medium
Those are most of the champs, though I may have forgotten some.
Abilities would depend on your champ but here are 3 of the most used:
Flash - Of course everyone uses this.
**Exhuast **- Slows down enemies. Used probably in times where enemy chases your ally with low health.
Teleport - Using tp is very impactful on the game, You can change the outcome by going in team fights or maybe even backdoor.
I hope you liked my guide. Put a lot of effort into it, even if it may not seem so much. If you have some other tips or something to disagree about please say in the comments. Of course you can check out mobafire they have way better guides.
Peace out.

and must have
? In the right hands, she is an absolute menace, with her constant heals and well placed silence. In the wrong hands, you have yourself a constantly dead support, as they cant land a single q.
Is a very tanky support, similar to Braum. She is a melee support, but very effective in the correct matchup.
I would list more of the common support champions that were missed in the first post, but a few other comments have already covered them to some degree.
Also, some slightly "off-meta" supports that I've seen (simply calling off-meta because I haven't seen them in awhile) are
