sightstones and champions

i find a lot lately that in my bottom of the barrel elo that no one wards except for me, even half the supports dont ward 'its not their thing'.... so i was wondering is it worth it to buy a sightstone as a mid laner if i can get ahead, i usually win lane in cs and sometimes kills too but also what would be some junglers other then lee sin that are viable to buy a sightstone on?

would splitpush heavy champions like zed, shaco, kayle, etc be worth buying a sightstone on at least until your ready to buy a 6th main item

Really a sightstone I feel is viable to any champ if you need it bad enough. That way your team isn't face planting every bush they come across because they are too lazy to buy wards. ALSO the extra health doesn't hurt. So in my opinion, I'd say go for it!

Depends if you're toe to toe with the enemy...then vision is too important to give up and someone is gonna have to man up.

However, if you crush your lane, roam bot, and bot crushes.... well just buy more damage and continue to kill.

Vision is important for planning the next play or finding out where the enemy is going. However, if they're too far behind they'll be too busy farming and clearing their jungle to group. So if you roam as a group or single mindedly push an objective, then it's an easy win.

If your teams strong enough -They won't group and if they do your team should win 5v5s -If you straight push mid, they will have to defend, keep pressuring them and they'll eventually make a mistake -If they group and you group, both teams will miss out on farm, however, since your team is (theoretically) ahead your team will always be ahead

Assuming you're winning and actually grouping of course

Again, if you're losing or having a hard match, vision is necessary

i dont think it's worth buying a sightstone on a mid champion. buy a ward or 2 every time you recall and place them in smart locations. if the rest of your team isn't warding there isn't a whole lot you can do about it without gimping your item build. just group with them as 5 and the lack of wards won't be as big a deal since people won't get picked as easily when you're grouped.

Hi OP, mid main here.

I've been playing mid since oh... beginning of S3 or so (damn, that sounds so much shorter, Riot Addiction OP). Even back when the supports had 2837458734895 wards in their inventory to ward with, I still warded mid, because you shouldn't be relying on your team to keep you safe, so bravo for considering ways to adjust to other players not doing what they're supposed to.

That being said, that item slot loss hurts magi alot. Unless you're playing say lee sin, etc, you're probably not going to want to pick up a sightstone mid.

2 situations : Either you're face rolling as mid, and you have lots of money to grab wards every back, OR You're losing mid, and you've only got barely enough to get wards and pots every back.

Either way, here's the rule of thumb I tell -every lane-

If you're leaving the fountain > 75g left and you have open item slots, you better have a ward.

Also! Don't forget to place and replace your pink throughout the game! If the enemy doesn't find it, that's a long standing ward for only 25g more!

(And yes, I do expect ADC's to ward, I do when I ADC, and it often saves my life).

But really, I think it's more efficient for mid to simply get wards each back. If you're roaming properly, you'll be getting plenty of kills and assists so you'll have no problem picking them up. =)

No. Just buy a couple wards sometimes. Rushing sightstone as a carry is a bad idea, and building it late is also a bad idea... Except one time I did buy ruby sighstone last item as AP Lulu mid (a while ago...) A lack of vision control really annoyed me that game and my own damage wasn't the deciding factor in the game. As an actual carry you should stick to 6 real items.

The tough part is managing your inventory slots between doran's, boots, wards, potions, and higher tier items. I love investing in potions and doran's...

It's more worth getting it on utility/tank junglers, such as Nunu, Lee, Maokai. There is no need to buy sightstone as a carry. Buy 1-2 wards per recall is enough. Get a sweeper as well.
