Help with not being bad?

ProcrastinatorL·1/2/2015, 8:13:09 AM·6 votes·1,546 views

I am atrocious at this game. I'd like someone to come and tutor/mentor me. Here's everything you should know to know what you're getting into if you agree to help me. -I only play top (I'll try other lanes when I can become somewhat competent at one of them)

  • The champions I currently own are Sion, Renekton, Olaf, Mundo, and Gangplank. -Somewhat easily angered (Especially by un-play-around-able insta-kill ults like Garen and Cho-Gath) -I seem to do the least bad with Renekton and Sion and I just got Olaf and I'm trying to learn him. -Some things I know i need to improve with are last-hitting, escaping ganks, and not feeding. -No, I'm not interested in your coaching offered for a low low price of 19.99 an hour.

I mained top lane in Season 3, but the only champs I've played a good amount from your list is Cancer Croc, and barely O' loaf. That aside, I think I still have a pretty good amount of general knowledge. I don't mind queueing up for some norms when I have time and giving tips/advice as I see it. I just don't want to commit to something that I might not be able to do religiously.

If you find someone else/better, sweet. I just didn't want to leave the post unanswered.

Simple Tips: Last hitting - Keep an eye on all the minions in the wave, the lowest one aim that one. Easiest tip for that.

Escaping ganks: Depending on the champion, Olaf with ghost is actually a very good combo, but when being ganked post level 6 on Olaf, you want to hit your ult if the other team's jungle has a lot of CC (crowd control). Then pop your ghost and don't look back, if you roll with flash, I'd buy wards often just to make sure you have vision for ganks.

Champions: Gankplank- Critical strike is amazing on GP. Rush your Ravenous Hydra and Static shiv for a good burst. Then go to IE( Infinity Edge). And depending on the other team's AD and AP. Build the rest tank, also Phantom Dancer is really good on him too.

I doubt anyone will coach you, but a good sure-fire way to improve:

Every time you die, ask yourself what you could have done differently/better in that scenario. Ignore whatever your teammates may have done wrong, you can't control what they do anyways, you can only control your own actions.

Look at what cooldowns are available, think about how you could have used your abilities differently, were you far up in the lane without wards? Stuff like that.

Heres some tips but ill be brief, make sure too: *last hit

  • zone enemy off of their minions if you can *try to win trades with your opponent *lane bully if early game champion like Renekton *Bring Teleport for(spitpushing, objective control, map awareness etc) *Bring Wards, lots of them *try to "freeze" lane agaisnt your turret if you can by only hitting creeps when their last hit ready *If youve taken turret already feel free to roam and help other lanes, especially if teleport is off of cooldown *Even though the champions listed above have great damage potential, make sure to build tanky as your team needs that health pool to take damage later in game *Vary builds depending on your opponent ie facing a rumble rush hexdrinker as opposed to rushing brutalizer for tankeir Ad champs like Mundo(assuming your playing Renekton) *If your playing top with the champs listed above, and facing a ranged top laner like gnar........ http://i.imgur.com/AdiBPrO.jpg

Starting off with Crystaline Flask on Gangplank at level 1 is like the BEST item for him and just about mid laner's too. It provides survivability in lane, keeping yourself alive while giving you time to plan out your tactics, just remember, it only has 3 actives so... use it wisely when you lane top.

Do not play Olaf, he is one of the weakest champions in the game and is due for another rework. Against decent players, you won't be able to do much with him.

I hope you find success in the future :)

I don't have a problem doing some top lane duels with you. I'm not the best top, but I can offer advice that might be able to help you.

Add me if you like.
If I'm unable to help much, or you're already better than me top, I do have Diamond friends that do free weekly coaching that I can direct you to. They do it on stream though, and it's a raffle against everyone else. They're really good, but if you're looking for more assured help in a shorter time, go ahead and add me.

-- One rule : Don't get angry. If you're there to learn, and you rage at me, we're done. If you're frustrated with things, that's different, but I am here to help you. Yelling at me is not going to make me want to do anything for you. =)

Read this, it should explain most of the principles of the laning phase.

Yes I know it centers around bottom lane, but the ideas can be applied to any lane, and should help give you some insight.

I would say right now pick one or two champs that you enjoy working with and play them. You will be able to be great with those two as oposed to being alright with 5. Also watch youtube stuff. There's lots of tutorials and streams.

I think that is you are somewhere around bronze (to lazy to view your account rank) then just having good mechanics alone will raise you to gold. Watch pro streams and don't try to analyze it, copy it. Multitasking will come with last-hitting. If you can focus on the opponent while csing you are golden in low elo. If you pick a good champ and know its limits and can utilize the champ to its full potential you can 50% of the time 2v1 a gank. Honestly, as a plat player I STILL don't ward. Most games I still have 0 wards and thats because I feel confident I can 2v1 a situation by getting the opponent low enough before the jungler could gank. Last step that I haven't got the hang of yet is the ability to have common sense. If you can tell its a bait don't initiate. I always like to take the chance when my gut tells me not to and then... I die. etc like this.

I suck at top lane but here are some resources that might be of use:

Here are some great lectures on fundamentals:

A service I recently found about on Reddit that offers coaching, many of the coaches will coach you for free. Haven't tried it out too much yet but it seems very useful:

imls is a coach of an EULCS team and is very knowledgeable about the game; his style can be a bit abrasive/aggressive but he has a lot of good information. Link to his youtube page:

Hope this helps

i'll come help you - i can't mentor you for 2 hours a day on a daily basis. i'll come coach you for free, but you can't expect to have free coaching if you plan on holding me for more than 3 hours

before you add me- if you aren't receptive and acknowledging of your issues , don't bother adding me i'll probably end up flaming you

if you aren't willing to change certain playstyles that are hurting your development (e.g sion adc) don't add me - i won't be able to do anything with you.

If you need a good source from youtube who offers a lot of good advice towards LoL gameplay and the community itself; look up 'Gbay99'
