Some potentially dumb questions regarding TF and Azir.

Alright I've been thinking over some aspects of Azir and TF playstyle, and there are 2 big questions that I have regarding them.

  1. How in the world do you actually get a kill 1v1 with Azir? I can chunk my opponent for half if not more of their health with his poke, but when it comes to actually securing the kill I'm usually stuck farming because my abilities are all on CD and thus I have no chase potential.

  2. When is it beneficial to use TF's red card over his gold card? For that matter, is there ever a time when a slow is superior to a stun in general?

If any higher elo (I'm S1 currently) have any thoughts help a brother out!

I don't play Azir, but for TF's red card:

  1. I like to spam red cards in teamfights where everyone is grouped together (jungle fights, for example). That said, if I'm against an assassin who will definitely go for me or my ADC, I save my W and use it solely for gold card peel.
  2. When my enemy laner is being too cautious of my blue/gold card poke, I use red card to poke by attacking a minion that is close to my opponent.
  3. I use it when I'm pushing, or when I'm soloing red/blue buff.

Overall, I'd say the gold card is more useful than the red card, but the red card definitely does have its chances to shine.

EDIT: I'm only Silver 2 at the moment. If you want higher ranked advice, I suggest watching some high-level TF play and keeping an eye out for patterns regarding when they use their red card.

Azir has a hard time solo killing anyone, which is why most people take a defensive summoner, safefarm the entire game and let his late-game powerspike handle the job in teamfights. He does, however, have fine gank followup with his E+Q combo's massive range and his wall, which is why ganks aren't bad at all.

Remember that you don't always have to get solo kills in lane to win a game, this gets especially common in higher ELO and also professional play, Azir is one of those champions who'll get very strong in late-game either way, he doesn't need kills to completely mess the enemy team up. You can and should, however, roam. Teamplay is underestimated and a botlane roam with Azir can completely screw the enemy over, especially because of his wall.

I rarely use Red Card in any fight. Red card I primarily use as a farming technique...Wild card the line, red card and blow up the minions...blue card the canon for magic back. In a fight, especially a team fight...I'll always gold card. The stun will always be universally better as it locks them down for peel and the rest of your team can just concentrate fire.

The only time I'd say the red would be better...would be if someone rushed some kind of tenacity and you only have 1-2 points in Pick a Card...as the stun duration is incredibly low but the slow will always be 2.5 seconds regardless of rank.

1: Poke the enemy down in lane with your random soldiers. Wait until the enemy is pushing into your tower, but their minions are mostly gone. Send your soldiers behind the enemy, E to the soldiers, and ult the enemy into your tower. If all goes generally correctly, they will probably be taking turret shots and/or they have taken most of their health in poke + ER damage. Your ult wall should be able to stop an enemy from getting away in time.

2: TF's gold card is for straight PVP. TF's red card is for waveclear and for some AoE in teamfights I guess. TF's blue card is for damage and mana refunds.

Yeah, red card is also preferred for things like baron/dragon/jungle-camp steals as from what I recall, it actually does more damage than gold cards and the aoe has the ability to hit people who may be going after those.

Also, I think many people are misinterpreting Azir's actual "kill potential". Yes, he may be bad at actually getting kills on an even playing field, but whose to say you should be doing that? With his ridiculous poke, getting an item/cs advantage is pretty easy to do. With a decent jungler too (nid/azir form a pretty fun combo), getting surprise kills isn't too hard as you can literally send your jungler behind their tower and force them to either make a play or get slowly widdled off.
