Finally, an alternate build for Riven

Project Riven··2 votes·2,201 views

My standard all AD build: item 3142 item 3072 item 3071 item 3074 item 3156 item 3035

5.16 theorycrafting alternate tank build:

item 3742 Dead Man's Plate Since I don't play Riven with boots anyways (inspired by BRNA), this item will enhance movement speed, while still giving survivability and damage.

item 3022 Frozen Mallet Added slow on your auto attack, while still giving you insane amount of HP for survivability.

item 3071 The Black Cleaver A must have already for the 20% CDR. The added HP for survivability plus more movement speed on attack.

item 3035 Last Whisper item 3072 Bloodthirster Situational. LW for tanky comp, BT for squishy comp.

item 3122 Titanic Hydra With all the HP in the other items, this item will compensate for Hydra in damage.

item 3142 Youmuu's Ghostblade This is important for the 10% CDR and goes very well with BT late game. Get this last.

Overall AD, 330 Not calculating passives and actives, the new build is only 5 damage less than my standard all AD build. Riven can still maintain her AD scaling for her shield, while having an increased amount of HP.

3720 HP at level 18. The passive, 5+10% of hp in damage, 42.2 damage every hit. So technically, the 50 damage is 92.2. Much better than Hydra. Cleave, 40+2.5% of HP, 93 cleave damage. Compared to Hydra, which is 20% - 60% of AD in cleave damage, Riven is still maintaining some cleave damage. The active, 40+10% of HP. 412 damage on your next attack. In exchange, Riven loses AoE damage for a single massive hit.

The debate between 12% lifesteal and 400 HP is out the window because as a tank, permanent HP will always be better lifesteal. Lifesteal is conditioned to on-hit while permanent HP is always there.

With the new Titanic Hydra and Dead Man's Plate, players can now play Riven as a tank and still do a significant amount of damage.

I think one thing you failed to highlight is the massive 20% CDR on Black Cleaver which is pretty much core on all, if not, most fighters who do 50% AA and 50% ability damage.

Nice theory crafting! Sounds viable. Riven has the disruptiveness for a bruiser/tankish build like that.

Another thing is that Titanic Hydra when I was watching Pawnce use it with Garen (20% slow on Judgement) dealt a FUCK TON of damage with just his 2200, more or less health. It's going to get nerfed in damage (if it hasn't already).

Oh, I thought that was a given? Hence why I play with no CDR boots.

But I'll add that in.

I guess it is given but it's such a big thing that it needs to be a mention. :p

P.S. Have a habit of editting my posts extensively, after I've posted them. As you can see.

Actually im excited for the new Garen + titanic hyrda/dead mans plate. Besides getting item 3068 item 3071 item 3083 item 3111 as must haves, you now have two new things to beef him up. titanic is great for it deals with basic attacks and Garens Q is considered a basic attack, so he can do even more damage with it.

Also Dead mans plate can now make his gap closing abilities even more gap closing with the speed boost.

I was gonna mention Garen, but that would be off topic.

With that said, yes, Garen will be a beast with DMP, and will most likely chase a Riven (without DMP) or at least force her to burn more than just E Q to get away from Garen's Q.

He is about to become the best riven counter, for if he builds armour and these two new things, he can do insanse damage and have more mobility, also they are Buffing warmongers so he is gonna be cray cray.

you should be getting 15% cdr from runes and masteries so ionian boots and youmuu's should complete your 40% BC shouldnt be built on riven imo and sacrificing hp for AD seems counter productive since your shield scales from AD and riven has no hp scaling not to mention that her ult increase her AD even more so the real build should be like. item 3074item 3158 item 3035 item 3142 item 3072 item 3026

People always mention that her shield scale with AD but they forget that it's only a shield ever 4 seconds. Whereas, HP is permanent and to go tanky, permanent HP is always better than effective HP (lifesteal, shields, grey health).

The build you mention, gives Riven 235 AD, whereas mine gives 330 so who's build is better in terms of AD? Your build is the most common build for Riven players who is just learning.

defensive stats > flat hp

I'm glad you took the time to do a four word post, very constructive.

Armor, Magic Resist, and HP are categorized as defensive stats so your statement is valid. Armor, MR, and HP is better than HP.

Armor and MR, however, don't give Riven AD. With this build, HP gives her AD and still maintaining survivability in fights.

Keep in mind that this topic is an alternative build for Riven, not What is the standard build for Riven.
