How do I keep up in gold and exp as a support mid to late game?

It seems that no matter how well I do as a support I generally fall way behind in both gold and experience, generally falling 2-3 levels below the top person on our team, and it seem that no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to build items fast enough. After this I can't generally take camps or farm lanes to catch up because I don't want to take cs from my carrys, nor do I do enough damage to even attempt this. Do and of you have advice for a support main in need?

You don't. Support will always be underleveled compared to the top laner, that is why supports are champs that have good baseline utility in their spells and aren't reliant on levels or items to be an asset to the team.

if your 13 and the top person is 16 that just means youre doing your job. Supports pick champions that are good no matter how much gold they have, thats supposed to be the point, you leach minimally to ensure your 4 members are as strong as possible while you still maintain moderate usefulness.

How Can People Support, I Don't Get It. That Roll Is Not 4 Me. Why Not Just Take All Cs Then?

its normal that you are lower..

somethings that can help a bit is borrowing mid exp by... say your lane is pushed ... say.. hey adc i am going mid for a sec... roam up there.. get a kill absorb some exp buy tons of damage..

remember ADC think they dont have to ward.. so they will most likely die being too pushed up because you will ward the tri or whatever.. and the enemy jungler will walk right on it.. but the adc wont react right and die because he just didnt respect the gank.

I have gold quints in my rune pages so that I can keep up in items and gold, and some games I even reach full build before some team members.

As for experience, it's just bound to happen. As a support, you're not drawn to minions because you don't need/aren't supposed to get the farm, and you also roam away to ward. Generally, it's not really a bad thing. Just avoid getting caught out by an enemy much higher level than you.

You should be below by a lot of levels. Supports are there to help with engages or disengages or healing or something else. They are not there to do damage. If your main carry is 2-3 levels above you, you're playing correctly. If you really need gold, stand next to a carry for a while and use your masteries/talisman to get gold when they clear waves.

You are supposed to be behind solo laner but if at any point you are more than one level behind your ADC, either:

  1. You roam too much and at the wrong time
  2. You are not assisting your team in objectives and team fights
  3. You die too much

It's to be expected, plus, as an example, your team benefits a lot more from your adc being level 16 than from you and your adc both being 14.

Hey. So yeah you're meant to be way behind because you're giving up all the gold from your lane to your carry and giving up all your kill gold to anyone else.

I'd make sure you are buying a item 2049 so you can run with a item 3364 and get the vision gold when you destroy wards. Also item 3303 is good but I wouldn't upgrade it, item 3069 is a better gold generator later game.

One trick I've noted the pro players doing is getting a item 3060 to split push lanes when they are on the other side of the map. Apparently whoever did the promoting also gets the CS credit for the creeps the Siege Minion has killed. I've seen some supports hitting like 150 CS by the end of the game using this.
