Is support gold production too low?

I'm a support main, and since the preseason changes went in it feels like I have a much more difficult time accumulating gold. I was just wondering if any other support players have felt the same thing. I think this change is mostly from loosing gold production masteries that were in the old utility tree, and the support items changes. I just wanted to get you guy's thoughts.

the only real decrease for supports is the assist gold generation. it used to increase based on the amount of consecutive assists to a cap and reset on death. the other is the mastery change as far as gold generation but with the new items it pays you to be near those minions when they die and the mastery is designed for slightly more aggressive support attacks on enemies. I can stay at or around the same gold generation as I was before the patch and end up with more items due to cost reduction on some things. not to mention I don't have to invest as much gold in the secondary job of supports and that's vision as it comes way cheaper now.

They've buffed the gold generation on Spellthief line (+8 / +15 gold per hit, from +5 / + 10 gold per hit), as well as the Ancient Coin line (+4 / +6 gold per minion, from +3 / +4 gold per minion). Starting gold across the board is now also 500g. All of these should make up for the +40g and +1.5gp10 lost from old masteries.

Honestly, I can build my stuff a lot faster, even more with the bandit mastery, when playing soraka sometimes I even get the item 2033 to add a little harass so I can get even more gold. Since item 2302 makes up for wards.

Remember Season 3?

My real complaint is the fact there is literally no reason to take item 3303 as a beginning item, it turns into item 3098 and then item 3092.

It goes from offering 5 ap to offering 50.

the 2 gold per 10 never increases.

the 10% cooldown is whatever since you will most likely be building item 3174 and item 3165

and the mana regen doesnt matter past that too since you built the above.

item 3301 is the only way to go, plus it's easier to use.

You have to aim the effect on frost queens claim, so it can miss. Why not grant your whole team a mini sivir ult?

To me it seems like they have enough gold now. You just have to be good with your gold income item and not miss much of the gold that could've been earned with it or else you get further behind than before.

But there's that new gold comeback mechanic that gives you more ambient gold if you're one of the bottom 2 champions on your team in terms of gold, and you get more ambient gold in general, too.

Although I feel like they didn't correctly take into account how much more gold the other members of your team make so that supports do seem like they make less gold than the rest of the team now. Before on a good support game I could often make the 3rd or so most gold on the team. Now I'm 4th or 5th like always it seems like.

I'm a support main as well, but I've been finding myself getting full build a lot faster.

item 3303 now grants 8 gold per champion hit at a max of 3 times per 30 seconds or 48 gpm. it used to way less. used to be 5 gold per hit max 3 hits per 30 seconds or 30 gpm.

the purpose of the item is for aggressive AP supports who wont kill minions to heal their adc or those that are not just buffing their adc but instead attack the enemy in lane

basically the 3 different ones are for different styles of support like the following: item 3301 item 3096 item 3069 item 2302 for regen needs like Bard Janna Soraka Sona who amplify ADC from far away item 3302 item 3097 item 3401 item 2303 for tanky supports like Alistar Braum Leona TahmKench who will take out some minions to heal up ADC's that have to get in vulnerable spots like Draven Graves Vayne item 3303 item 3098 item 3092 item 2301 for aggressive ap like Annie Brand Morgana Zilean who help chunk life away from enemies in lane more than the other 2 types

Depends on how you want to play your support but you can use any of them and just play to the strength of that item.
