Energy Runes... Is there a case for them?

Why do they exist? (1) They're expensive. (2) The ninjas don't appear to need them. (3) It appears more important to build other stats. They are only good for ... What if anything am I missing? Why not just build some ninja specific gear instead...

I figure having energy regen runes might help zed out a bit never tried do

They were never any good. Many runes are more useful.
