Hey Bronzelords, improve your summoning with this one easy trick

SecretAgentHulk·10/29/2014, 8:32:27 PM·24 votes·14,432 views

First, I'm in Bronze. Don't take the 'Bronzelord' thing personally. :P

Second, smartcasting. Smartcasting is amazeballs and you should use it. My Braum is easily 25% more effective with Stand Behind Me and Unbreakable smartcasted. Thresh's Dark Passage can now just be thrown. Veigar can cast Dark Matter fast enough that Fizz can't escape Event Horizon before it lands. Ryze can spam like he lives in Nigeria.

Don't set everything to smartcast. I like having to manually target Teemo's Blinding Dart. Braum's Glacial Fissure, Thresh's Flay, and Veigar's Event Horizon are things you'll probably want to manually adjust. But smartcasting will improve your response times, making you a better player. It's tricky to get used to, but worth it in the end.

Smartcast is pretty scary when you're not used to it. But I would really encourage you to give it a shot. Change is scary, don't get me wrong, but it's worth it! It's going to take awhile, but eventually you'll find you can react faster and easier than before.

I started it on only a few champions that I knew very well. At the time, I think it was Leona and Caitlyn. But after awhile I was eager and willing to smart cast all the champs, then I started smartcasting items and summoner spells. Also, I wouldn't jump into ranked games while you adjust :D.

you can aim there is option to show range indicators, you have hold down the bottom to aim then release to fire

AdgharKH10/30/2014, 2:01:14 AM6 votes

I don't ranked very much, so I'm probably also around Bronze/Silver level, but I wanted to say there's a huge amount of stigma attached to smartcast because "you can't aim."

WELL GUESS WHAT BRONZELORDS check the box that says Use Range Indicator When Smartcasting or whatever and you get THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. You just have to hold down the button, release to cast, or right click to cancel.

BAM. YOU NOW NO LONGER HAVE ANY EXCUSE FOR NOT USING SMARTCAST.

"Don't set everything to smartcast. I like having to manually target Teemo's Blinding Dart. Braum's Glacial Fissure, Thresh's Flay, and Veigar's Event Horizon are things you'll probably want to manually adjust"

or you could just be lazy like me and learn to live with that one awkward ward in the bush xD

I'm in Bronze and I've been using smartcast since level 7 o.o

sciencemon10/31/2014, 2:38:44 AM3 votes

i don't see why you have to manually target certain skills when you can hold down the Q/W/E/R key for said skill and aim. if you don't like the positioning or aim, you can right click to cancel

Nah, I smartcast EVERYTHING. But turn range indicators on, it's the best of both worlds :)

TheVishual10/30/2014, 3:40:31 PM3 votes

There are very few reasons to not use smartcast on every ability... the only I maybe I wouldn't is on rumble ult. It will increase your speed tremendously, just learn the cast ranges.

I'd like to add on to this that switching your attack move click (smart casted attack move) to A, can really save you some unneeded clicks. I was struggling to get out of silver 1, and found this little trick.. Even though I come from a starcraft background and have always been good at stutter-stepping with right click-a-left click, now I just have to right click-a-right click-a... The little things, oh and I hit gold today :)

Just thought I'd come back and mention just how much better I've been playing with smartcasting on. Landing Thresh hooks and Ezreal Qs is so much easier it's crazy. I can now react instinctively instead of having to time everything and hope I can click faster than my target can juke.

I was stuck in Silver 2 for the longest time, and noticed my biggest issue was that split second from hitting the button and left clicking. After get demoted a few times, I practiced smart casting and carried myself to Gold VERY quickly.

Did you mistake Smartcast with Quickcast?

5u5h110/30/2014, 2:41:50 PM2 votes

I always use smartcast with the targeting stuff still activated, so I can hold the button and check the range and angle and stuff. It's probably in between full smart cast and not using it at all in speed but it's what works best for me :/

Genreninja10/30/2014, 6:58:15 PM2 votes

My best advice to those new to smartcasting: Start with just 1 ability. You can toggle smart caster per ability. So just turn on 1 ability you use a lot. In time you're like, wow that's so much easier. And you notice "Damn I missed that, turns on smart castings for that q ah ha! That's better" and before you know it you're smart casting QWE and pwning.

ShadowKnight122410/30/2014, 8:33:13 PM2 votes

I can't smartcast at all and I don't see the situation improving with practice. Smartcasting isn't for everyone, and my playstyle requires me to carefully aim my skillshots and predict my opponent's movement, given that I play at 270-300 ping.

The only thing I can smartcast is Cassiopea's E, and it's not worth to change the casting in the options menu when I can simply use my pinky to hold down shift while I mash E on someone.

Thanks for the reminder OP, I completely forgot about smartcasting. Enabling it in a custom game as I type this. +1 fellow Bronzelord.

Crett10/30/2014, 10:27:29 PM2 votes

that's just like me; i smartcast unbreakable, stand behind me and dark matter but i manually target glacial fissure

KillaTron10010/30/2014, 10:56:59 PM2 votes

I smart cast pretty much everything and I started it at level 2 so I got very used to it quickly. When I picked up braumBraum It allowed me to combo like a god. Since skillshots sometimes have deceptive cast ranges (ex. Blitz hook) I was making grabs others thought impossible.

I've been playing since January of 2011. I just switched to smartcasting on everything about... 4 months ago? I'll never go back. Getting used to it took a little bit but I love it now! Don't worry about fumbling around a bit while you get used to it.. you'll get it!

Ryvaku10/30/2014, 5:38:51 AM1 votes

Wait wait.. there is a smartcast? I didn't know about that. How does it work?
