Should I buy Jayce? Is he good in this patch? In the last weeks I think I saw just 2x Jayce and I played a lot of games...like at least 3 games per day. His kit seems really impressive and his kite potential for a top laner is insane. I wonder why Jayce is no longer played...and if he worths 6300 ip now.
DynasticMule1 votesPersonally, I love Jayce. He can out trade just about anyone, is a strong lane bully, and can carry games once you master him. However, he is a high skill cap champion, but he's definitely worth learning. The problem with him is he's a squishy, so if you go against a tanky top laner they can still come back.
Ladrac1 votesI know he's kinda squishy...and that's why I asked if he is good in this era of the tanks patch xD I remember that I played him a long time ago and I enjoyed him, but I see that he's no longer played as much as he used to be.
J Eevo1 votesI'd say he's not really a good pick at this moment, while he is very fun to play he struggles a bit in the current meta and be warned that he has a higher than average learning curve.
DynasticMule1 votesAbsolutely! If I'm going against a tank, I will max Q-E-W, since his E does damage based off maximum health. It's fun to EQ in cannon form, then switch to hammer and Q-W-aa-E them. You will do great damage to them this way, and possibly take no damage in return. In early game and mid game (if you build armor pen items like brutalizer) you will be strong, but late game it becomes harder for Jayce to drop the tanks. A lot of people don't use him anymore because they play him wrong or don't trade properly, but I'd say he's still relevant!

You should never max E before W....maxing E literally gives you nothing on his acceleration gate outside the minor buff to speed. Maxing his W second however not only significantly increases his poke but it also increases your sustain in lane due to increased mana regeneration but also his wave clear as well. His max E is really only useful in hammer form...and where the increased % health is nice...it's most useful later in game during team fights after you've poked down the enemy with your accelerated shock blasts. So it should be the last you max.
As to the OP's question...Jayce is NOT in a good place which is why you don't see him. He's almost exclusively top lane now...his ability as a mid laner was exclusively in poke comps...however, his poke potentially is not nearly as good as someone like Varus or Ezreal...which is why he's not picked. Jayce was decently useful as a top lane poke counter pick to a lot of bruisers...Darius, Garen, Riven and the like. However...now that juggernauts have gotten huge buffs...and continue to get more...he's even less viable as a counter pick. Currently he really does not have a place in the meta. The number 1 US Jayce player...."Just Jayce"...a Master/Challenger level Jayce only player...even admits that he's just not well off atm.
All that being said....he's my favorite champ and I pick him anyway when I'm top lane simply because I find him so damn fun. However, you're going to have to rely on being able to significantly outplay your opponent 90% of the time as you will be at a heads up disadvantage.
