Need help nautilus jungle

I'll try to make this short.

I used to main Nautilus in the jungle ever since he came out, he's one of my favorite champion in the game. I used to be something whit him in season 3. But ever since the jungle was reworked and pre-season 5 started I cant seem to get the trick to jungle whit him anymore, the route isnt the same, the runes i end up using isnt the same as I'm trying to adapt, but for some reason i just cant seem to, so i'm asking for help.

currently I vary between etheir 0-21-9 or 9-21-0 masteries and runes, atk speed in red, flat armor yellow, mr per lvl blue and flat armor quint.

I know there's a chance they'll change smite abit and nautilus shield stats and go from bonus hp to total hp % scaling ( something I'm not completly convince about, I mean i get the idea behind it, but i also see the item limitation it brings) , but in anycase, I think i'm still gonna need help to make him work in the jungle. for the first time i really do feel abit lost in the jungle so all help is welcomed.

usual route goes as follow: from red side gromps (golems)-raptor- red then gank or back from blue side Krug (frog) - wolves - golem then gank or back

I've been playing Nautilus in the new jungle, and enjoying it so far, but I haven't really dedicated anything pages to him specifically.

Runes, Masteries, etc

  • I use 3-21-6 masteries. The 6 in utility are in fleet of foot and meditation, the 3 in offensive are Butcher and 2 in atk speed.
  • For runes, I use atkdps quints, magic pen reds, flat armor yellows, and flat mr blues.
  • I start and max w, then e but I'm pretty sure everyone does that

Jungle Routes Blue side, I go smiteless krug (with decent leash) usually pop one pot here, then early smite red to get my hp back, then skip razors and go to wolves. Pop 2nd pot somewhere in between red and wolves as needed. From here, I'm lvl 3 and can either look to gank or go ahead and take blue with smite.

Purple side is pretty much the same process, except krugs are swapped out for gromp and red is swapped out for blue. Since red is on the opposite side, you might have to pop second pot earlier but you should still be able to go toad->blue->wolves-red (or gank).

The reason I always start bot side, is that bot can usually give a much better leash than top without giving an early lane advantage, which means first clear isn't as taxing. In general, the jungle is going to suck a lot more for everyone early on (I don't think Khaz can even solo red/blue lvl 1 anymore), but Nautilus can still get a pretty healthy first clear.

After first clear, I'm generally always looking for lanes to snowball, but if I don't see any solid potential then I just keep farming to 6 (because his ult is gamechanging when ganking but you know this). I generally try to stay away from razors unless I have smite up and need the bonus to clear wards because they always hurt like a bitch. If I'm seeing decent gank opportunities, I look to smite toad for the bonus dmg. If I'm getting stuck farming the jungle from lack of opportunities, I'll smite krugs. Red is always nice to smite unless you're about to recall because of the hp returned.

Poacher's omitted, which jungler item you take is completely up to what you want to do. If you want to stay healthy in the jungle you can grab trailblazer, or stalker's for ganking, or Skirmisher's for tanking a specific person in team fights later on. Itemwise, not much has changed for his build path. Juggernaut aside, I consider Sunfire a core item. I don't bother getting mobi boots (though I used to in past seasons). Tabi against AD heavy, Mercs against AP/CC heavy. Yes, the tenacity from Iron Elixer stacks with mercs. Locket as MR item, other tank items as you see fit. Jungle clear speed and healthiness is still tied to your shield, so the buff (the one before this latest/pending one) was really nice.

Is there anything in particular that bothers you or that you want to discuss?

  • take enough points in utility for the biscuits and 40g starting gold if you really need to
  • kill lil creeps first cuz they hurt like a bitch
  • take trailblazer cuz that shits awesome
  • or take stalkers to be a walking embodiment of cc like you are
  • back after your first 3 camps, rush smite upgrade asap
  • DO NOT UPGRADE SMITE TO JUGGERNAUT if you took trailblazer

i canr stress the last point enough so I will put some details in... later in the game when you are team fightting more and farming jungle less, you really dont need that AoE smite anymore... I would sell trailblazer for to open a slot for a better tank item

lets face it, juggernaut is shit early game and its shit late game, I will never take it 1500 g could go toward getting a sunfire sooner
