Why can I face the same player 3 times in a row?

I just played a game where I had a strong team throughout. It came down to three of us left, one guy I could beat, and one guy I could not beat. The guy I could beat got to sit there for 3 rounds at 10 hp as I faced the other guy 3 times in a row. He was basically gifted second place, while I had to settle for third. Why is this even possible?

Similarly, I'm routinely shafted in other games when I'm low and can afford one more loss, only to get the guy in first place back to back. I thought they were supposed to be fixing this? It's an awful feeling to have the second best team, but come in third while the other guy doesn't even have to play.

I was in a game where the guy in 1st and the guy in 2nd had multiple 3 star champs before Krugs. I went up against them a combined six times in 10 rounds. I could beat others when I went against them, but going against the same guys with god tier RNG that game SIX TIMES was too much in that short of a time span.

I was sitting on probably the second best team comp in my last game, but the guy with the best one fought me twice in a row and knocked me out. What could had been a 2nd or 3rd turned into a 6th, really great :(
