Any tips for climbing in tft?

I've been having some extremely hard and tilting games to which i can't seem to get out of gold atm! The game mode is fun, but literally braum and rangers are almost always picked, and I don't know how at all to play around it.

Does anyone have any tips to perhaps win some more games?

Thanks!

Howdy! Plat 4 here.

  • Don't go into a game with a comp in mind. Play the cards you're given.
  • Look up meta strats so you know your options, but don't force them just because they're meta. Forcing comps will always kill you.
  • Know which items are good on which champs. (On-hit items are particularly good on people that attack fast, or attack multiple people, for example.)
  • Spend ALL of your money early, until you get a few 2-star champs. Once you get some 2-star champs you can decide your comp.
  • Once you get your comp together, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Having 60-80 gold late game is huge for making adjustments to your field!
  • It is ok to lose health.
  • 1g champ drop rates drop as your player levels up. Re-rolling for them is a waste of time past like.... level 5ish.
  • 3-star champs are a bonus, not a win condition. I win the majority of my games with all 2-star champs.
  • Watch other people's boards! It is a shared champ pool. If you're trying to 3-star a lucian, but someone already has a 3-star lucian -- you're likely wasting your time and your money. Default hotkeys to help you are 1, 2, 3.
  • Know how to pivot into a different comp. If you're running sorcerers and someone picks up dragons, you need to be able to pivot into something else. Keep your options open.
  • Carousel is for items. Not champs.
  • Spatulas are great and all -- but they're risky. Its almost always better to get the guaranteed completed item than it is to gamble on a spatula. Only grab spatulas if you have the other item you need in-hand already, or if you got a spatula from creeps. Otherwise you might be sitting on a dead spatula all game long when you could have had a warmogs, or a gunblade, etc.
  • Level up! But not too much... gauge when a man advantage can help you, and when that money could have been spent better on re-rolls or champions.
  • Don't worry about getting 1st place. Its nice when it happens, but its ambitious. Concentrate on NOT being in the bottom 4 instead. LP gain is LP gain. +4 or +40 is still a win.
  • Don't combine your items until you know what your comp is gonna look like. There's no reason to put a blood thirster on your tier 1 garen in the 3rd round.
  • Spamming your Little Legends emotes during carousel rounds gives you a +1% chance to win. Do it always.

I started Iron 2 and I am up to Silver 1 in about 2 1/2 days give or take.

General advice is don't just toss items on anything, I wouldn't combine anything early unless you are sure it's something that can be put on a different champ if need be. Often I'll sit on components till I have an idea of what I want to build with what I have (comp included).

This gives you a lot more flexibility to play around with since if you built something like a Titantic Hydra Early for your Graves but now all you are getting Mid / Late are Casters and you haven't been able to upgrade that Same Graves from 2 star to 3 star then that Titantic Hydra was basically wasted; So if you are building a Titantic Hydra (just as a example) you need to have an idea of how it can transition into your mid game comp.

2nd thing is don't fight the RNG, this is something that takes awhile to really get use to; for example I just got 1st in a Game with Shapeshifters..I have NEVER ran Shapeshifters before let alone did I actually WANT to run it; but the game gave me 3 Elise early..AND THEN it gave me another 2..And then A bunch of Nidalee as well after I had grabbed that Elise...I said well ok looks like I'm gonna try and run a Shapeshifter comp!

Early on it sucked, I think I lost 13 straight or something?? But My elise was Full Evolved and I tossed a RFC on her as well as a Titantic Hydra AND a Red Buff! Then I got some Sorcerers which Included Twisted Fate for quicker Shifts

AND THEN I Got ASOL AND Shyvana literally RNG magic made the ASOL lv 2 after 1 Round and Shyvana almost just as Quickly..Never played with a Dragon Sub Theme before either.

Point is I went into the round fully expecting nothing, don't expect certain comps or items ever, instead have an idea of your champs that you may enjoy that are splashable example Pyke and TF are 2 that imo are splashable in almost any comp regardless of whether it's mid/early or Late, so even if I get a Elise sorta comp I know that if I put priority in getting a TF or Pyke (even in Carousel) that will really help my chances, same thing with Lulu as well, these 3 imo are staples and can be plugged into almost anything to shore it up.

Also i don't know if you have a TFT Item List Cheat sheet

But this really helps me to make decisions on what i may want based on the component(s) i have.

Last thing is to not lock into 1 comp, especially the later the game goes, it COULD be possible that you start off with Nobles and holy smokes you just get so luck RNG that all of them end up getting upgraded to Lv 3 and have the exact items they need to be great all by the end game...It's possible...But it's also highly unlikely and generally speaking you should be willing to dump large portions of champs at the drop of a dime if i'm being frank..

For example, if you are getting dumpstered with some sort of Glacial comp, your Ashe is still lv 1, you have no items on her; you are getting slaughtered over and over by the same teams and you are on a healthy losing streak and the matches are not close then hopefully you were paying attention to what the RNG has been trying to hand you. Always prepare, if you notice these picks like Cho'gath and Kennen coming up and it's 2 at a Time, even if they don't fit into your comp currently you should be getting them anyways just incase another comes. Or Yordles for example is something that constantly pops, all sorts of yordles all the time..If I'm running something like Glacials or idk maybe Void something or whateva, and I see yordles coming up, I will slowly (not that slow tho) start plucking them up because the fact is they are all strong even on their own without the perk; a lv 2 Veigar or Kennen or Lulu has a lot of merit in my opinion and if you have some items to toss on them as well then hey you know what they can splash and play in your current comp to cover whatever you need.

Things like that; Now I may think those 3 Yordles are borderline Staple picks (Lulu is for sure a Staple imo) and maybe someone else doesn't

Be flexible. Know what you can make with what you are getting, and what works good as a transition if you cant get what you need later or other comps that are strong to yours start to become dominant.

Remember, anything 4th and better is a win and climbing. Top 2 is ideal, but youre not going to get it every game. As a rule of thumb, 5 is a minimal loss, 4 is a minimal gain, so even if youre netting 5th or better, if youre getting a few 1s and 2s thrown in there youre climbing.

For braum and rangers, on-hit items is always a good option to choose, or demon.

Hello,

So as im assuming that braun has a thornmail on it, get gunblade for your carry (atrox, voli, kenen...). I also assume that you dont want to play rangers so yordels can be quite effective against it combined with sorcerers.

As general tips cc is a must in this game, therefore, try surviving early (nobles buff is awesome early) as well as any 2 stars. Morelo and guardian angel can be used pretty early because you will swll those units and the ítems fit most comps. Mid game you will want something like 3-4 damage dealers (gunslingers, sorceres, blademasters...) and 2 tanks. Gnar, cho and sejuani are the units you want because the cc they provide will give u more time that garen or darius. (If you gave garen a morelo give him to cho now) Lategame you will be finishing your damage comp (4 rangers, 6 guns, 6sorc..) and should keep 2 cc frontliners.

The only exeption to this could be assassins, but we leave that for other day.

Maybe pick the champions you like and know builds for in normal league and see how it goes. Aim for a top 4 spot each game to begin with just to get some lp on the board...then you can go for some 1st place finishes the more you play.
