What a surprise but still needs some things
Walking into TFT for the first time I figured I wouldn't like it even though I've never played Auto Chess or anything like it I just had a stigma already about the game before I played and first game I had no idea what to do or how to do anything, same with the 2nd and 3rd.
This is when I started getting hooked, like hitting that pipe for the first time and forgetting you had a Mom; this is where the descent into TFT began....
I soon began taking entire days and dedicating it for TFT exclusively; I had actually been doing semi-ok in league and was/am in Promos and I had plans to grind to get to Gold which I'm sure I could've done.....COULD'VE.
I played all Saturday from 6 a.m. to about 2 a.m and I started getting some Wins, getting a few top 2s but almost consistently being first for the majority of the game and then in the last 5 minutes I would lose and I started noticing more and more in games when I wasn't first that the people who were for the majority of the game would often times end up losing.
Then I noticed some of the champs and also some of the effects and really this is where I am going with this. There is little counterplay to some champs like for instance the bonus of Phantom which personally I think is kinda busted cause it may as well just say "Remove 1 enemy Champion" but really what is the counter play? There are very limited Healing avenues in this game and even though I love the effect and everything still in terms of balance it's a bit busted.
TFT has the groundwork of being a really solid and addicting game I can already tell yet the thing it's missing (Like most strategic games) is counter play, there are some things that have obvious counterplay or at least some counter play; then there are some things that are just wildly strong which is by design for sure but the only counter is to "Kill them 1st" so that is a very linear layer to a game which for sure makes it easy to play and pick up but it doesn't actually achieve the different dimensions of strategy / tactics that a game like this needs to keep people enjoying it for a long time.
Getting 4-5 Assassins is great for sure and it's fun and easy for ppl to get this and win or finish strong because there is basically a line in the sand that is drawn that any idiot can see; are there enough ways to stop each strategy in the game though? And that's where I hope that this game will stick around and more champs and development can be put in because I genuinely miss nerding out and thinking about comp structure and all those sorts of things and it's something that is greatly appreciated so long as there is depth but not so complex to the point of needing a degree to understand how to play it.
Also I would say even though there probably are people like me who would play and even spend a lot of money on things for TFT I'd make sure you at Riot develop a lot of new champs and strats and counters to those first before you even look for money in this game. If you start telling us to pay you too early it'll be all bad real quick.
Anyways really hoping to see more things done in TFT and I really like it and in some ways a little more than LEague but at the same time I can for sure splitting time (and possibly money) between the two
