With his dying breath, Sion killed Jarvan I. The King's crown now serves as Sion's jaw.
I know the crown would have a larger diameter by merit of it being cut and spread around Sion's head, but his head is literally as wide as Irelia's most famous asset. That crown's huge.

Demacians have big heads. In other news, water is wet.
Cinematics usually exaggerate details to make it more prominent for the audience. If you want a more accurate size look at Sion’s splash or in game model.
Also, they had to exaggerate it to show the Demacian crown’s gloriousness.
Well, maybe Irelia is small?
I wouldn't be surprised if the crown was sort of...bent and stretched in some forge to fit Sion's jaw.
