General Discussion Boards Have so many "Ahri Is ugly threads"

Around 2-3 threads from yesterday, and around 1 thread today, and has gained 15 up votes and many other upvotes on peoples comment about her ugly in other other threads no matter what it gets down voted, why did Riot even changed the splash art on Ahri's flawless 2011 splash art to the one we have now? Now im not saying everything about it is bad, theres just some things that don't represents her personality. She's lacking brightness and has a dark background in the picture which doesn't really show the beauty or the innocent personality of her from what was said in the lore, her face/body is completely pale white which looks like shes looks bewitching cruel, but her eye colour are fine but... its just that they look more of a human eye than a cute fox eye's, if you compare it between the one we have now and the old one, if you look closer my full sizing it, looking far dosent really fully show it

Reverting it back to the 2011 is impossible now, but I just want to tell this to Riot the next time they make a new Ahri Splash in the distant future, Please Riot :I

I've stared at the new Ahri splash for eons and I still don't understand why people have a problem with it.

Beauty? If anything she's more conventionally beautiful in her new splash, what with the vibrantly colored lips, more slender face, and seductive pose. Innocence? Ahri is the antithesis of an innocent character. That's sort of the idea of her entire backstory, actually. The darkness of the new splash reflects that. More "human" eyes? How many people do you know who have bright gold irises? It's true she doesn't have the vertical pupils of a fox, but you could just barely make that out in the original splash anyway.

I also really like how the newer splash showcases her tails; in the old one they were just flailing around, whereas in the new they're more focused and sort of envelop her.

The problem cited by most people I know is that her current splash art is an anatomical nightmare. Her spine is broken to a degree where her chest and ass are facing in the same direction, her head is as big as her waist and her arms are long enough to reach her knees if you imagined them into a static position.

It's not about conventional beauty or lack thereof, and definitely not about innocence. This splash is simply not something you ever put up into a commercial work unless you want to advertise that you hired an artist who failed art school.

Now that you mention it I can definitely see that the anatomy is pretty awful. I think the tails did a decent job of obscuring that, but now I can't really unsee it. Damn.

I'm really sorry. In my defense, I would be unworthy of using the name of the Philosopher Queen of Rima'hai if I couldn't dispense at least some biting and soul-crushing critique. ):

Unfortunately, a lot of recent splash arts have been failing in terms of basic anatomy, with easily the most eyebrow-raising cases being Vayne's non-existent buttcheek and Caitlyn's legs not connecting to her hips at all. Ahri's current splash is actually an improvement; for the original version that debuted several months before the current one, the artist simply copy/pasted Ashe's face and photoshopped whiskers on it.

The coloring on these splashes is gorgeous and the clothing is wonderful, but the artist seriously needs to learn how to draw human bodies. Their understanding of anatomy is Rob Liefeld levels of bad right now.

Haha, well, I suppose it's better to be enlightened than continue to be fooled by visual trickery. I have to agree that a lot of recent splashes have been rather lacking, though; and none of them have the benefit of obscuring fox tails.

Even by your rock-bottom standards, this particular cry for attention is a bit too desperate. I was almost ready to give it 2 out of 10 for exemplary grammar, but then you went and resorted to capslock. As good old Terry Pratchett said, may he have a good time wherever he has gone to, caps lock and excessive use of punctuation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind.

Try again without quite so much provocation and harassment. Right now, you look a bit too much like you're begging to be noticed.

Knockwurst, the one who made the original Ahri splash, has an excellent v2.0 of his splash. It gives her much more personality, a pleasing color scheme that doesn't edge too much on the dark and also looks damn good.

I hope Riot considers this as the replacement splash for the current one but I doubt it, since they seem to be working towards some kind of motion blurr theme in their splashes.

And yet the VO lines in Ahri's in-game suggests she's still sly, flirtatious, and a man-eater. None of her ingame VO lines suggests she's even a bit remorseful and if anything, the new Knockwurst splash captures that personality quite well.

What's to suggest she even feels guilty at this point of the lore? The entire crux of her guilt was that it gave her reason to seek the assistance of the League of Legends (which is retconned). As far as I can still see, the inclient lore still has her turning to the League for assistance.

This right here, is where our headcanons of Ahri's start to clash. I just like the knockwurst v2 splash better. I feel it looks better, has a better personality and is the sort of Ahri I see in the game. Still, it's no reason to get so darn mad. Jeez. umadbro.

I actually used mod tools to replace the current splash art with that one as soon as I found it. :x

It does bring out her personality much better. The way Ahri comes off when you combine her VO and lore, she is remorseful for her actions but is not a wilting flower or a pacifist. Rather, she is someone who came to understand the weight of her actions and seeks to be responsible in how she uses death/violence to achieve her goals. It's perfectly possible for a character to be both an idealist and prone to use of brute force (Batman says hello).

But more importantly, her current splash is a mess. The anatomy on it is completely broken (she's a fox, not a gibbon; she shouldn't have arms long enough to reach her knees) and the icon is a washed out blob of pale blue colors. Rather than because of various reasons concerning personality, I replaced it first and foremost because it's embarrassing to look at.

Her old splash only conveyed one thing to me: Heaving breasts. I'm glad that shit is gone. It was an eyesore and made her look bad.

Her new splash isnt great, but its better than before.

Lol you talk about her innocent personality.....when it is known that she seduced men to take their souls...

I mean yes she had a change of heart,but I think it is hard to believe,that she did a 180° and is now a completely innocent girl,especially when you listen to her VO.

I'm sorry, you have no idea what you are talking about. Color contrast and brightness? Ahri's face is bright because of the contrast dark background. Ahri's current splash has a more lively feel to it. The current splash portrays movements, volume, and texture. The previous splash looks nice, but it just felt like any other 2D drawing. No offense to the artist, but I've seen 2D anime postures/pictures that made the character feel alive. Your criticism of the current splash don't have any legitimate ground to stand on.

Why can't they just make it so your game portrait is of the face of the skin? Sure it'l be a lot more work, but hey the fans will feel more incentive to buy skins in the long run, and it'll make the game more interesting. Some might say, "well it can be misleading." well then why not just have the opponent see the default icon and only YOURSELF can see the splash difference? Now before we go into how much work it'll actually takes, people have done that for custom skins, for free. Riot is a multi billion dollar living legend, it can go the extra mile.

Or better yet, why don't we have Paul Kwon draw the splash? I loved his take on Challenger Ahri and Bloodmoon Elise. I love his work. Let him make a rendition of Ahri's art work :D

I just hate Ahri as a concept. Her entire theme is about sex appeal and using lust as a weapon, and it just sickens me.
