He's basically a peacock. Peacocks aren't that smooth.

Chønklord1 votes

I mean, that's your opinion.

Male peacocks are the flashiest and more elegant of them all; who's to say they're not smooth?

Ralanr4 votes

I don't see how you can be flashy and smooth. One is subtle and the other is a purposeful lack of it.

Chønklord2 votes

You don't go around the LGBT community much, do you.

The two are not opposites;

You can be subtle and be smooth, or you can be flashy and still be smooth.

Ralanr1 votes

Can you provide an example of the latter?

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

The only possible example I can think of would be Barry Allen smooth-talking.

Chønklord1 votes

Barry Allen -- as in "The Flash" comic book character -- is not a smooth talker.

An example would be one of many performance artists such as musicians/vocalists, i.e. Madonna, et al.

There are many male vocalists that put on an extravagant performance show and have a svelte voice.

You totally missed my point. My point is the only time you can be flashy and smooth is if you are literately the Flash. Smooth is care, precision, and specific. Flashy is the opposite.

Chønklord1 votes

No sir it is not the opposite. In the context of personality:

  1. Smooth = suave, sophisticated, charming, et al

  2. "Flashy" = Extravagant, Noticeable, Performaner, Colorful, et al

What does the lgbt community have to do with this?

If you are using it as an example of being flashy and smooth at the same time, then it is a poor example.

I don't think flashy is the word you are looking for, as Ralanar said they invoke different images and expectations of behavior.

Chønklord2 votes

Because some in the LGBT not only are extravagantly flashy/"peacock-ish", but smooth talkers as well.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

That makes more sense when worded that way because one is appearance focused and the other involves speech patterns.

Smooth isn't necessarily a lack of flash and grandeur. Smooth is oozing charm and able to smoothly communicate and use your silver tongue to woo. You can absolutely be flashy and smooth at the same time. Even characters in shows who are flashy and show stoppers are at least charming on some level. None of them reach even remotely close to Rakan's level of pre-pubescent teen on LSD personality.

I can hear and see that they went with "dancer=James Brown," as you can definitely hear the influence in his voice from Brown. However, they chose the most disconnected look to pair with the James Brown persona, and it's a very jarring experience.

Nature. This is what male peacocks sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MhZPqHeEAQ

Chønklord1 votes

Ok, and?

(Still sounds better than the voice acting for Rakan).

TheHappyReaperz1 votes

So it makes sense. Peacocks are flashy and elegant. Yet, they sound strange, so different from their form. So it makes sense for a character like Rakan to sound the way he does.

THANK YOU!

Why is the post getting so many downvotes? He's talking 100% truth.

Well thats a skin though.

Lissandra can be a robot and still talk about ice 24/7 Caitlyn can be a demon, yet still talk about upholding the law. Vel'koz can be a being of light and still miss the darkness of the void

In the end it is simply quite common for skins to not fit the VO(except for skins with their own VO of course)

Chønklord2 votes

His standard skin also betrays the voice.

GreenLore1 votes

While his standard skin looks like he could be a smooth talker,it doesn't look like he has to be one.

Ew, not Jhin's actor.

Dragon Master1 votes

Quinton Flynn could never be a charmer.

Chønklord3 votes

Is that Jhin's VA?

When I look at that photo of Rakan, I imagine someone with a deeper voice, who's timbre is clear, and slowly enunciates / elongates his words.

Not this pathetic 13 year old yippy sounding voice actor we have right now.

He's so god damn annoying

It does. I hate both.
