And I have to say, from a visual standpoint, I don't particularly like his new design. He just looks so different, it is not really Galio anymore. Feels more like Galio is getting replaced with an entirely new champion as opposed to being upgraded. I wish his model had been updated similar to how Warwick, Poppy, and Taric were where you can still tell it is the same character, they just look sleeker. :/
I feel what happened to Galio is that he now looks Demacian. The new Galio is still a type of Gargoyle. He looks like he's a statue with wings and tail. The difference is that he now architecturally fits his faction of origin. It's definitely not something I expected, and his face doesn't' scream as much character as his old one did (probably because old one had a lot of wrinkles), but he does look hella boastful.
Eh. Old Galio didn't really seem super great, IMO. He was supposed to be demacian but didn't really fit the feel of the place. Now he's regal and massive, like Jarvan and Garen respectively.
Still a gargoyle and now his color and design sheme looks very demacian (white and gold with clean features). I think he looks better now.
I feel like if he was blue/green and gold instead of white and gold people would be reacting better. I agree it's a pretty drastic change.
I think I agree with you. However, I do think that the problem is fixed if they just make his face a bit more bestial. He looks too humanoid.
He looks like he fits in with Demacia now. He looks the part, and looks fucking amazing.

Eh? Warwick was given a freaking robot arm and a big garish lime green tech bullcrap on his back. That's not at all just making his old model sleeker.
I'm a little late to this discussion but here are my two cents:
I think the new design is fresh and very fitting for Galio. His design seems to be an appropriation of the Lamassu, an ancient Assyrian diety that is meant to protect. It seems like Riot is directing his image towards power and protection rather than the original gargoyle-esque power with fear. A nice nod towards the ancient past :-)
Galio is a champion that I never see in solo-queue and see once in a blue moon in aram/other featured game modes. Starting his character design over from scratch based on what the champion originally represented is a good idea to get people interested again.
Thank good he doesn't look like he did before. He looked like sh*t.
