And I have to say, from a visual standpoint, I don't particularly like his new design. He just looks so different, it is not really Galio anymore. Feels more like Galio is getting replaced with an entirely new champion as opposed to being upgraded. I wish his model had been updated similar to how Warwick, Poppy, and Taric were where you can still tell it is the same character, they just look sleeker. :/

I guess I could have worded that better... What I mean is he looks like the statue of a soldier/man now whereas before he was more imp-like. Usually when you think of gargoyles you think of that impish shape or of some sort of animal at the least. Nobody walks up to a statue of a historical figure and thinks "that's a gargoyle." :/ Needless to say, I think he looks too different. Changing his colors would be one thing, but on top of that he gets a complete facial overhaul.

I mean, WW looked like WW because he is still a beast character that seems kind werewolf like.
Poppy looked like Poppy because she's still a Yordle with twintails.
The problem with Galio is that he's a statue. Lol. So in order for him to look the same, he had to be the same kind of statue or else he just won't fit period. While his silhouette isn't 1:1, they kept the fact he has wings and he has a tail. Hell, they could have just said no to the tail. Then there would be a REAL problem on him not being Galio. Right now, he has a more Demacian look and architecture to him. I imagine if they made Galio a Noxian, his rework would have given him a different color palette AND he'd be more gnarled in appearance. It wouldn't be as "smoothly" chiseled. He would have been made with more edges and possibly fangs.

Galio was created a really long time before the present Demacia, so it was totally normal that he didn't looked like he was belonging to Demacia because architecture, art and culture evolve with time

True, but as of now, I'm pretty sure what people are wanting is just for him to be ugly with a hunch in his back. Regardless of that, I feel that there probably would be less talk of his look if he had the same color palette as before. Unfortunately, that would mean he was made outside of Demacia since he's made of the same building material easily accessible inside the kingdom.

I already think he is ugly, personally (i'm talking about his face/neck/crown, it looks wrong to me). It's true that having the same color palette would be pretty cool, but the real problem to me is his voice (and kinda his lines even if i heard like 3 of them, the "i'm here you're welcome" that's definitely something the old galio would never say (so his personality is a problem too))
Honestly if they do an exception with him and make him a traditional skin, i wouldn't be too disappointed by that rework but if they don't well i'm gonna be salty about that for like 5 years seriously, I mean he got nothing in common with the old Galio we all know that

The whole teaser made me think of Iron Man, and while I love me some Iron Man that's not the character that Galio feels like he was or should be.

True, at the moment Galio's face is much more akin to that of an imp which is much more in line with the fantasy of a gargoyle. Nobody walks up to a statue of FDR and thinks, "that's a gargoyle."

I think the new design is fresh and very fitting for Galio. His design seems to be an appropriation of the Lamassu, an ancient Assyrian diety that is meant to protect. It seems like Riot is directing his image towards power and protection rather than the original gargoyle-esque power with fear. A nice nod towards the ancient past :-)
Galio is a champion that I never see in solo-queue and see once in a blue moon in aram/other featured game modes. Starting his character design over from scratch based on what the champion originally represented is a good idea to get people interested again.
