How Summoners Rift exists while it doesn't really exist.
Since the whole retcon-mess this question was never truly resolved. The reds said that the actual PLACE exists, but not how tons of people from all over the world end up there at the same time just to bash each other's head in. Especially: How can people fight in the rift and have their own stories going on at home, such as the Bilgewater or the Harrowing events?
But that's kind of impossible! After all how can a champion exist in two places at the same time? Or wait... is that REALLY impossible?
Let's say there is a Sarah Fortune in Bilgewater, and there is a Sarah Fortune at the Rift at the same time. Now one could assume that the first is the original and the other is a fake. But what if those were both the original, connected in some way? As Illaoi has shown us, pulling someone's spirit out is not something too weird.
That way the Summoners Rift would become some kind of abbreviaton of reality that attracts strong souls (or whatever qualifies as participant I guess).
The only question would be: what do these champions fight for? Now we could assume that the Summoner's Rift is a microcosmos of the "real" Runeterra, and that events on the outside have influence on how the Rift looks, but events on the Rift also can have some kind of influence on the real world in an indirect kind of way. Then winning on the rift would have some result onm the outside. Maybe good luck? Good fate for their plans? Maybe winning in that realm gives you the strenght you need to follow your plans in real life?
The champions wouldn't even have to be aware of the fighting, most human champions would probably only remember the fights as distant dreams. Omnipresent entities like
or
probably don't make a difference in what layer of reality they are in right now. Although one could assume that since Summoners Rift in this theory is a very compressed micre-reality, it allows them to permanently manifest easier and not just when someone dies.
The question is just... with what purpose does Summoner's Rift do this? Who built it in the first place? And are the ones who built is still using it, or is it just running because none of the original creators turned it off and now no one knows why?
tl,dr: Summoner's Rift is a microcosmos standing in an autopoietic feedback loop with the world it's placed in.
did a thing) I like to think I'm onto something.
