First of all I dont like it, its same-ish as Galio, he sounds less wise and old and more like a dumb brute, but its much less of a case than with Galio.

Another thing that I wanted to ask is if they removed the quote "Return me to the forest", its like one of my favorite quotes in the game, its not something funny or cool, it just fits the character so much but I didnt hear that line in the new VO. Am I wrong or did you remove it and if you did why RITO why, it was so perfect. I know its not much but I was really dissapointed :(

Looking at his old quotes, none of them seem particularly wise. He's just an angry ent, as far as I can tell.

Also, people really need to stop being pissed over the galio VO. It fits his new character, and it's still fairly cool when you actually listen to it. He still has some wise shit to say. Yes, he yells more and isn't super-depressed (on the surface), but a champ doesn't need to be defined by their depression. THat's what he was before: defined by his depression. It was his sole character trait. Now? Now he's showing that he's happy to be alive, and protective of his allies, but there's also sadness and fear because he knows that as soon as he finishes fighting here, all his allies will be gone whenever he wakes up next.

There's no forest to return to now.

Maokai's original lore had him as a tree from Twisted Treeline that got pumped full of magic during a League match and came to life. He didn't like it.

The thing is, the Treeline isn't canon anymore. The League isn't canon anymore. So there's no forest to return to, he can still not like magic because it kinda blew up his home, but some other lines referencing his backstory likely had to be redone.

I think the worst part is how they've redone and inverted some of his old lines. They don't even make sense now :P ("I would end your burden, but you always return"? The heck?)
