Why I actually like the new Ahri splash art more than the old one

So over the past couple days/weeks I've seen a lot of discussion on the boards about the new and old Ahri splash arts, and how some prefer one more than the other, and the new one having flaws (THAT CHIN THO).

I personally prefer the new art. To me, it represents what Ahri actually is. To show what I mean, lets take a look at the old art first: http://i.imgur.com/woNW0Tt.jpg

To me, this art shows Ahri in all her glory. She's beautiful and elegant, with lovely clothing. You can see her whole body, and she's there posed wonderfully.

This is an alluring piece of art, I won't deny that. But to me, it isn't Ahri. Ahri is a fox turned human. She's LITERALLY a fox. The way I picture her, she's a gal worth chasing after and following, someone extremely captivating, someone you'll never quite understand. A beautiful mystery, a seductress, a girl who will tease you and mess with you, etc.

That is what I think of when I think of Ahri as her personality, and I think her voiceover and playstyle ingame captures this image extremely well. "Shall I make your pulse rise....or....stop. giggle"

And this old piece of art....this isn't the Ahri I picture as far as her personality goes. This Ahri is more like a greek statue, someone to admire, someone who is there, someone who draws you in while being stationary. This is more like that one girl at the bar that everyone comes up to eventually but nobody gets. This isn't a fox, this is a goddess. This isn't Ahri.

Now look at the new piece of art, keeping in mind what I've just said. http://i.imgur.com/P7wQuME.jpg

The leaves and trees bend around her, giving her a feeling of movement combined with her legs. She draws you in, but not like a statue, more like someone you're chasing, someone you know you'll never catch but you want to try anyway, someone alluring who's messing with you. She has part of her body covered, but I view this as a good thing - the art shows you enough that you can imagine it, you don't see everything, parts of her are a mystery. Her more ruffled hair creates a more "wild" appearance, which I see as a good thing, and her tails feel a lot more foxlike and furry to me, rather than the old art which had them looking smooth like the electron orbital clouds your chemistry teacher makes you draw.

I am not going to deny that the new splash has some annoying little flaws. But in my opinion, the old splashart also had flaws, the tails being one, and I was never happy with the way her hair and ears looked - they looked more stuck on, somewhat unnatural, the hair looked really stationary as if someone had used hairspray to mold it into that exact shape and didn't want it to budge and inch. They both have some flaws, and obviously some people are going to prefer one over the other.

But to me, the new splash shows Ahri the way she should be portrayed - a fox - rather than the image the old splashart put into our heads.

The angle makes her proportions distortedly off. The angle also makes her robes look like a schoolgirl outfit. Her expression still doesn't look like she wants to engage with you. At least in the last one she looked possible.

If you can compare her New splash now to her skins, esp the newer ones you can see that they are very differing. The faces are completely different. Her face was more rounder and now her chin is very prominent. Her pose does not even make sense to me.. at least Knockwurst could have created a Splash that gave Ahri another shot, this time modernized to League's newer art style. They should have gave him the Ahri Splash project in the first place because he knows everything about Ahri, from the poses, anatomy, and face being the creator. The atmosphere is so dark and she is too pale to me, I feel like she's more of a sickly witch & that's not pretty. (all imo)

while I agree with you, what you described in the old splash fits her lore better than the new one.

Saixos, you basically described why I like the new Ahri splash far better than I can (I cannot into words it would seem).

But yeah, new splash actually looks/feels like it fits her more thematically.

Thank you for summing up what I've been explaining to people who complained about her splash art changes since 2 years back. The only thing I personally don't like was how they modified her physical appearance to be slightly feral compared to a more humanoid appearance.

But I guess it is meant to represent a part of her personality. It is true that her new art captures her identity of being a nine tailed fox more accurately. It's almost as if she's drawing you in by lulling you. The added effects of the trees and leaves swirling around her gives that dramatic effect that she is elusive and mysterious.

That is because they were stuck on; the ears were added in a separate layer after the splash was completed.

I thought the old pic was of her right after she charms you. That's why she looks so perfect.

the chin in the new splash looks perfectly fine to me? like i don't get it lol it may look a tiny bit odd if you forget that it's partially covered by her hair, but i think it looks completely natural

That would be like taking your mother and changing her for another woman who might understand you a bit better and help you out more than the real one. The new one might be better sometimes but you cannot substitute the love you feel for the original. I hope you understand my analogy. And appart from that, the old splashart looks more like anime/manga, which is always better in my opinion.
