The whole thematic argument doesn’t work here

Sports skins in general pretty much don’t “fit” any of the champions except for one part of their character, looks, or kit.

It doesn’t make sense for Darius to have a basketball skin other than that his ultimate dunks people.

It doesn’t make sense for Rammus to have a soccer (or football, if you prefer) skin other than that he rolls into a ball.

It doesn’t make sense for Ivern to have a basketball skin other than that he’s lanky like a stereotypical basketball player.

They don’t play any of our sports nor is it likely that many of them would, so by the logic presented on these Boards recently, there shouldn’t be any sports skins.

Maybe you don’t like the model or the particles or even just the name. Maybe you wanted a different theme or felt like this one could’ve been done better. I am fine with any of those since they are completely subjective. However, when you try to make a logistical argument to try to say that it’s objectively bad, that’s where things fall apart.

If it’s gonna be a basketball skin for him, at least don’t name it “Dunkmaster”. That was given to Darius because of his ult, which is a similar reason why people requested J4 and Illaoi to get Dunkmaster Skin. change the position name like the do for the soccer/football skins. When you hear Dunk in a basketball themed skin line, an expectaion is for there to be a dunk animation somewhere in there, which is misleading.

Although, apprently it’s his recall. Still odd. I see Basketball Ivern as the tall kid that is more for “defense”. shrug

ye but a Dunkmaster skin should at least be able to, you know, dunk.

that's the whole point of the skinline.

I personally liked Ivern's skin a lot, I know that for many is not what they expected. The community of Ivern mains are preparing a document with small changes to improve the skin, if Riot implements at least some of these changes, surely increase the acceptation of the skin.

Here's the thing. My all time favorite skin concept for Jhin is a Sugar Rush skin concept. Now, you're probably thinking, "How does Jhin fit into Sugar Rush?". Let me explain.

The skin itself is called "Candy Land Massacre Jhin". This could imply many things. Is he Candy King Ivern's assassin, there to help him sate his hunger for sugary flesh? Is he just insane, driven mad by an encounter with Dark Candy Fiddlesticks or Bittersweet Lulu, perhaps? The Sugar Rush lore is surprisingly fucked up. There are endless possibilities here that still fit that "Jhin" theme without it being too outlandish.

I feel the same way about Dunkmaster Ivern that I do about Candy Land Massacre Jhin. The skins themselves don't appear to "fit" the champions they are made for, but a name, lore, and splash art can make all the difference. What is Ivern doing in his splash? He's passing the ball back to Daisy, not dunking. In the skin's lore, it will probably describe him as a more supportive player, there to help his team score rather than to score himself. These factors all point to Ivern's skin being called something besides Dunkmaster.

Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about.

It's like you missed people saying if he was a basketball player he wouldn't be the player whose dunking but the one who helps fend off the enemy team so the actual Dunk master (Darius) can score. I hate basketball with a passion so I don't know nor care to google the position name that's better suited for Ivern but yea... What you are trying to say about the community is actually a comment towards Riot - if they were doing sports theme skins they could at least have them make sense.

Also Ivern isn't your typical basketball player, he's more like that tall nerdy kid in school who gets forced to play basketball and isn't actually half bad because of his height.

I think a tennis-themed skin would have been better.

The idea of thematic skins needs to be ditched anyway. Loads of people on these boards suggest great ideas but then are shot down because the champ doesn't 'fit' the theme.

Bullcrap, if Riot want to make a Conqueror of the Sands Azir or Pool Party Nami, they can and will and should.

If there's anyone worse than Rito, its their players. This whole fiasco shows that people don't understand ironic humor. The skin exists for two reasons. One, he fits the description physically of a basketball player (tall and lanky) as OP mentions. More importantly though, he's not really a "dunker" in game. That's the joke. That's why it's funny.

does that mean that, because someone is small, he can't play basketball?

Previous sport skin weren't based on the look of the character, what's next, sumo gragas? :p

I'd pay good money for a Pool Party Nami skin.
