Turns out, Riot's releasing a digital album of League music on Amazon this Wednesday and the Amumu song is part of that album.

The Amumu video is a nothing more than a commercial for the new album.

Edit: According to Riot Wenceslaus, the album will be free on the website and available on spotify and other formats.

I wonder who some of these songs are meant to match up to? Most of them are obvious, (Quinn and Valor), but others are a bit more dicey. I like the last one for Viktor.

My first guess is that the some of the music on the album will just be the same login songs for their respective champions (Get Jinxed, Braum, Quinn and Valor).

I'm also guessing that the "story" songs won't really tell us anything about those champions that we didn't already know being fans of the lore.

There are previews up for the songs if you click them on the amazon page. It seems only the Amumu song and Jinx's have lyrics to them, sadly.

On the bright side, Braum and Quinn and Valor do sound like new songs, unless I forgot their log-ins. But Get Jinxed, Daylight's End, and Freljord are definitely just the log in themes for their respective champs (Jinx, Diana, Lissandra I think? Been a while.)

Everything else seems new to me.

Braum's sounds almost exactly the same as his login.

I'll admit, good on Riot for trying to market more than just stuffed poros and Tibbers dolls. It's not actual lore, but it's something entirely different.

I'll be honest, I'm still confused about Amumu's backstory. It's very fuddled, and although I enjoyed the music video, it's leaving me with more mysteries.

Could Amumu's curse be broken? Was the city he destroyed somewhat connected to his past? It's interesting where Riot will take this...

The possibilities were already there, but nothing was added to the story with the video.

In essence, it's the same thing as the "Get Jinxed" music video: An interesting look at the champion but not really telling more of the backstory than we already knew.

I want them to do Teemo! I've already come up with some ideas that might be interesting for a potential rework, but, I know, Riot will go in and do maybe, a promotional preview like Sion Sion had.

It's possible, but remember that it took at least a few months to create that video and there are over 120 other champions. If this is what Jaredan means by "we've been working on it the right way," I'd rather have the text right now.

Not everyone knows about his story from the pbe that was taken down. This is the first for a lot of people, and compared to Kalista, told in a slightly different context. Didn't know Amumu was that strong, and we get to see things from his point of view instead of people talking about him.

Tamat had to refer someone to the wikia last night.

As far as the PBE story goes, I liked it. It addressed all the important points (reason for his sadness, his "curse," some of his backstory and it continues the debate on if Amumu's a Yordle or not.) It's not the perspective but the story.

We agree about the website's story, or lack thereof. I just don't criticize the video based on the lack of story. The video looks at him as a character, while the story looked at him as a myth.

I'd say the city was likely his hometown, given that it initially appeared following the line "But even when Amumu stood upon the ledge of home." He returned home, but was shunned or feared due to his undead/mummified state.

the majority of these are already posted on their soundcloud for free for download, same as how the pentakill album(which ironically was an actual album) was posted on there to download for free.

and i dont understand how a song cant also be a telling of lore,

jinx's thing was a song, but was also considered lore.

It can be lore, but there is no story in Get Jinxed; it was simply personality development (which is just as important, and is much more dynamic in a visual medium) -- it was implied to be a dream.

In Curse of the Sad Mummy, there is exposition, but it's framed such that it's a story being told to others (like Braum's lore), specifically: children. I'm not sure if they're trying to imply that the story is being told to scare kids into behaving (since that's what the Brothers Grimm would do), but it makes it such that I wouldn't take it as the full narrative of the actual character, Amumu.

I've had this debate with Rioters, but I'll gladly rehash it with you.

Jinx's music video was considered "lore" because Riot considers it "lore." It was produced at a time where the story was suffering a lack of updates and we didn't know if Riot's Narrative team even existed.

Much like the Braum teaser cartoon "Trials of the Poro," the Jinx music video didn't tell us anything about the champion you couldn't gleam through normal gameplay or through reading her backstory. Therefore, most of us did not consider it "lore."

What the music video did was hype up the champion to millions of people through YouTube and other social media avenues. It was a commercial for a champion called Jinx and a game called League of Legends. As awesome as the video and the song were, call it what they actually are and not something it's not.

Yes it got released as a way to create hype for the album but thats about it and basically the case with any kind of lore.

It's a digital format download. Amazon simply doesn't allow for free downloads, so Rito probably charged the bare minimum they could so they could get the album on that format.

The post was first made ten hours ago, more than 4 hours before the free album was released on the website. Hindsight doesn't make you smarter.

I'd say it still counts as a lore-related video, even if it is part of a larger promotion, but that's just me.

It's not full-on lore, but it is a look at the character itself in a different medium.

Now, if this were say....a subscription MMO, any short stories or the like etc would intrigue people, and make them want to keep playing the game. Anything players do or discover through gameplay must make them want to keep playing or buy the next expansion.

But in leagues case it's a free to play game, so all you have are skins, skins, and more skins and occasionally a new champion unlock. I heard similar comments during the 2014 Harrowing "Wat thiz? Iz just sellin skinz! It cant count az lorez!" It's the primary way Riot makes money actually, selling RP ...IF Hipplaus is to be believed -some paranoid tinfoil hat folks think E-sports publicity, and advertising/endorsements etc is enough to sustain Riot all by itself.

Anything lore wise that comes out is going to also tie in some fashion to some content release.

I CAN DO THIS TOO!

Let me make something clear: I don't have a problem with Riot selling things. I own three stuffed poros (Season 3 Worlds) and have purchased more than 300 skins. I have no problem giving Riot money.

What I have a problem with is when it's being presented as something it's not. There was much confusion here and on Reddit about the purpose of the video. Some thought the Amumu video was an announcement for an upcoming rework, others thought it was a planned change on how Riot wanted to introduce their champions.
