Wanna Know Who I Would Love to See in the Upcoming Shuriman Civil War? Aatrox!

I say civil war because obviously Xerath has some followers, maybe a lot, based on Nasus' lore. Azir has his own and Xerath has his own, a civil war is bound to happen that will shape the empire. This is a very deciding battle and you know who I want to see show up? Aatrox. He is supposed to be this big figure in history that shows up in decisive conflicts especially. He feeds on hatred and loves war, so what better war to feed on than a war of gods between an angry emperor and an angry being of pure energy? They kind of introduced Aatrox a while ago with this big suspenseful event almost to where they showed Ezreal reading the books and being like "Holy crap, this is so much bigger than anyone thought! He's EVERYWHERE!", and then they did nothing with the character in all following big conflicts. Especially now that the Institute of War isn't around, can't he at least show up in this war of the gods? Aatrox

I think one reason Aatrox hasn't shown up is that he is, in a lore sense...blatantly OP.

Aatrox can decide the outcomes of entire wars by swooping in and going "SUP", and he's done it, multiple times, apparently. He's kind of an "I Win" card. I know my experience is probably irrelevant here, but when I do write League stories, I can't really include Aatrox without feeling like, if I'm staying true to his Lore, he's just going to decimate.

Now, I'm sure Riot could find a way to write around it. Some way to limit his powers, or something like that (There are about 4 demigods running around Shurima right now.). I just think he's sorta tough to write, but we'll see. I'd like to get SOME development on him, as is he's sort of a weak personality.

I think it would be clever not to directly include him, but make sure the audience knows he was there. Like, maybe, as the story closes (when it does) and whoever won the battle (at least for the time being) makes note of a figure that was there. While I want more than this, I think it would be cool to at least let us know Aatrox was involved and will likely continue to be involved as time goes on. I mean, no way he will skip this giant blood spill though right? I understand power creep or whatever you want to call it in a story, but can you really say with a straight face that Aatrox would just ignore a war among gods to decide the fate of an empire?

Oh, you're definitely right, this is supremely his kind of thing. Aatrox revels in war and bloodshed, and here it is, like a big juicy fruit.

And I think what you proposed would be the best way to handle it, he's not in the middle of the field where everyone can see him doing his thing, he's got kind of a mythical aura to him, like Bard. The only issue is his...side effect. Aatrox inspires massive, horrible bloodlust in whoever he uses his powers on. In his lore, the people who benefit from his "battle high" are completely appalled by what they've done once it comes down. While that wouldn't be out of character for, say, Renekton, I think Taliyah or Azir would have significantly bigger problems with it.

Although I can't say I wouldn't be interested in a story where Azir accidentally becomes the monster Xerath portrays him as and people think he is...

That would be an amazing to be honest. A completely out of the left field, yet completely acceptable turn of events that also makes sense. It would also be cool if, to make sure it takes more than one story arc to make Renekton sane, Renekton is nearly brought back to reality by Nasus and Azir and the like, but then a sudden urge to push him to kill throws him back into the bloodthirsty monster he has become. Then later on it is heavily hinted at that it was all Aatrox's doing in someway. It would be cool if both of our ideas about this happen, maybe Azir and Renekton both suddenly are filled with rage and that's what causes the arc to come to a close with Azir realizing what he has just portrayed himself to be and Renekton being somewhat defeated.

Basically, the story ending with Azir winning the fight, but losing the faith of many of his people, and Renekton being further conflicted with what is the truth and what is not. Xerath is forced to retreat and both sides are heavily weakened in different ways, forcing a decently long yet temporary stalemate. At least, if Aatrox comes in in such a way, that is what I would hope they would do with the story for both Azir and Renekton.

Yeah, what kinda bugs me about Aatrox is that he's set up as this massive, powerful force, and it's like "Oh, what'd he do?"

"some stuff in the past you haven't heard about."

"Oh. Okay."

I find it the other way around in a way.

"Oh, what did he do?" "HE, ALONE, DECIDED CENTURIES OF WARS AND HAS BECOME ALMOST SOMEWHAT OF A WORSHIPPED OR INCREDIBLY FEARED FIGURE IN NEARLY EVERY SOCIETY ON THE PLANET! HE IS THE MEMBER OF AN ENDANGERED SPECIES KNOWN AS THE DARKIN WHICH HAVE MANIPULATED RUNETERRA FOR GENERATIONS UPON GENERATIONS!" "Wow, what is he doing right now?" "I have no idea. He hasn't shown up at all." "Isn't there like at least two ginormous wars still currently going on?" "Yeah so?" "Where is he?" "Probably mourning the loss of Sated Devourer or something, IDK!"

Not unless some other force with power similar to his is counterbalancing the war. Maybe Bard? Maybe (Darkin) Jax??

riot hates aatrox though you can tell since their idea of a buff was making him fill up his passive resource with his ult

They hate him gameplay wise (and for an understandable reason). Lore-wise, he is currently a pretty big missed opportunity.
