Do people want more Visual Updates? (Twitch, Karthus, etc.)

So I saw a post from earlier about someone wanting more VUs. In it a Rioter replied saying that they went underappreciated but he used ones like MF or Alistar. Now I want to know if you guys want more Visual Updates in the style of Twitch, Karthus, etc. Ones that fully realize a character and change the model, art, voice, lines, ability visuals, etc.

I want to get as many people's votes on this so that way Riot can see if this is something people would honestly want.

Edit: To clarify I am not saying we need to just stop doing VGU or anything. I would just like Riot to know that VUs can be just as important for getting someone to play and like a champion. Prior to his VU, I never touched Karthus. Lulu is someone I just won't enjoy before of her ugly base skin. I was playing a lot of Twitch when he got a VU and I just died with happiness. To me, a VU is also massively important. According to Riot, they just don't seem interested in it because they believe people don't care as much.

Edit #2: So I am going to keep checking this post and replying to everyone as best as I can. Thanks to everyone voting! On Friday I am going to tally up everything and then do a final thoughts post regarding this. I am listening to everyone and I have a lot to say in general. Update all of the Black Rose (except Elise, she's new) together. Swain Leblanc Vladimir came out around the same time and are equally dated to the point of goofiness. Swain is in line for a VGU, but LeBlanc is arguably just as important for the lore and Vladdie is just a babe.

Robes aren't exactly all that fancy looking. Not too mention she's a giant spider monster lady.

If anything she could see a texture update on her classic, it's looking a little grainy. Design Wise she's fine thugh.

Look like some kind of priestess that gives off a caring feeling that makes you trust them enough to go to literally the worst place on the face of the planet? Something like this...

With the long sleeves and a flowing gown would fit WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than her current design which is just generic sexy scantily clad spider lady.

Her current base design doesn't fit her lore and it's never fit her lore nor is it iconic outside of her pointed platforms which could be kept in a new design. I see no conceivable way you can look at her design and tell me with a straight face that it isn't just "generic sexy femme fatale" with very little else behind it.

Well it's said that she wears a robe to attract people, and she uses magic to seduce them as opposed to actually her good looks. That's made pretty clear in her lore.

Gown's are just kind of boring really, I'd be sad to see them redesign Elise into something like that.

Perhaps my own idea for how she should have a redesign isn't the correct one, maybe it would be boring or maybe Riot could make it look more interesting than you think, I will say that I stand by my view that she needs a redesign some time in the future though I see your point.

While I do think it'd be cooler if Elise had a fully humanoid form that looks like some sort of priestess or nun and then a spider-human-hybrid form(because she should have at least some hybridform,so her spiderform would need to be the hybrid one) I don't think they'd ever change her that drastically.

Her current form is pretty much just her human form without the disguise,so its not entirely unfitting.

I think you misunderstand, I wasn't saying she should look more human in her human form but that her clothes and look could be better for her lore and more original.

yeah,but the clothes would make her look more human as it would cover the inhuman parts.

I mean that is the point of said disguise isn't it?

In general I think that Elise kinda suffers from the fact that she was released during a time where pretty much every female champ needed to be sexy(I remember a rioter calling it babesplosion)

They wouldn't have to cover her inhuman parts though, it wouldn't be hard to incorporate spider parts into a new design even if it wasn't one with low clothing.

Hm I guess you could make her spider legs grow out of her cloak(maybe even make it so that they rip through the cloak when she respawns).

In her base skin she is just ready to fighting scenario. In her "normal life" I'm pretty sure she wears something in between of cape and priestess gown. That hides her spider legs.

But in her base she doesn't need to lure someone. She just ready to fight and she dropped her gown and cape so they do not shackle her

Actually, if you look closely at her splash, she doesn't actually have spider legs, she's wearing very weird platform shoes that have an extreme point on the end.

As to her being ready to fight, none of her human form skills are really battle like abilities (In appearance) it seems clear that she's not actually very good at fighting in her human form but instead relies on her magic for it and only really gets up close and personal when in her spider form. This is part of why I think making her look more priestess like would fit much better since her human form is slow and range oriented which would suit a more ceremonial appearance.

No, I meant spider legs that at her back. Like real spider legs.

And this place on back would be especially shackled and very uncomfortable to wear any clothes on.

I do want more Visual updates, but I realize how much work they take, and I don't think that they're worth the amount of work if a Visual/Gameplay update only takes a bit more. Visual/Gameplay updates are very important for League of Legends and I think those should be prioritized over Visual updates.

Frankly I agree. VGU are important to league. However, I believe VUs are just as important for fully realizing characters that are in a good position but just aren't believable or to a healthy standard. Veigar is a good example as he just looks like a sunday morning character villain. MF and Caitlyn look like hookers, not badass females.

VUs also bring new voices and lines to the character as well. Lee and Akali feel alright visually, still could use a new appearance really, but their lines just feel so outdated and memey. Hell Zyra looks awful and it's one of the main reasons I don't play her. Same goes for a few champions.

MF and Caitlyn look like hookers, not badass females.

Add Ashe: she have a decent model but how appear now, don't respect who really is and it does not look like a freljordian. She have two skin which are literally chroma(Freljord and Sherwood). Her abilities compared to Q are a bit outated and ugly to see.

As an Ashe main, I agree with that 100%. I really want her to be the badass frost archer she deserves to be. It would be so cool for her to have an updated vo, animations and visuals. I know she certainly the worst in terms of visual update, but she could use some love.

I love visual updates, but I think VGUs are far more important for the future of the game. If Riot started doing pure VUs again, they'd have to take resources away from the VGU teams, which would slow down their overall production rate:

When we do a GU update tons of player try out the new champion. In General whenever we do gameplay updates to the game or champions it gets players excited to play league. We don't see this same response for VUs.

Lee Sin for example is pretty old visually though it doesn't really stop him from being one of the most popular champions in the game. On the other hand If a champion has unhealthy or dated/boring gameplay very few people will play that Champion.

Sorry for getting very producer-y here but I hope that makes sense.

I agree with that. However, I know myself and a bunch of others love high quality VUs because it just flesh's out a champion so much more. Karthus before his VU looked actually like a cartoon villain. It was silly and didn't really fit. Now he feels like a true threat he just oozes character.

Caitlyn, MF are two badass females but both look like hookers and knock-offs of highly sexualized characters. What they wear and how they look does not really define or show their character. A VU is meant to take a character fine in gameplay and theme wise and refine what it is that makes that character that character. Although VUG are "more exciting", a well-down VU can be just as exciting and is a nice nod to all the people that play that champ. I just hope we get to that point again that Riot will update some of the bland designs of some characters and refine them.

I agree with you on Cait and MF however with Cait they could probably take her theme of 'sniper sheriff' to the next level if they just gave her a full VGU. Somehow I feel Piltovan sheriffs are a bit too technologically advanced to be using bear traps to capture criminals. So IMO Cait could use more than a simple VU to make her a lot cooler and thematically resonant.

A VU also includes a variety of other things. Karthus's abilities remainded 100% the same but they all look different and feel different. I do think Cait's gameplay fits to her identity but her visuals do not.

VGUs we get only 2 to 3 per year, in that pace some champions will get their update after 10 years or never

VGUs have multiple teams. While the gameplay and balance teams are busy the visual and sound team could easily develop stuff for other champions until they are needed. It's basic resource management.

I'am the one that posted that lols and i vote yes because some only needed a VU ove a VGU and its not kinda fair that GU got some love except the VU. example is caitlyn.. she has a potential to be a great piltoverian sheriff and her design is kinda meh but her kit is ok ... and veigar too .. kit is ok design is cartonie :D

Yeah ^ a lot of older champs are cartoony and that is lame. Some have LOADS of potential and I'd love to see some art teams sink into them.

Sivir, Twitch, Alistar and Karthus are all amazing examples of VUs. More of them would be fantastic, it makes the character feel like an actual character. Miss Fortune desperately needs one. Her background doesn't match up with the sexual innuendo trope we got going on right now.

100% agree. That one animation of MF a while back showed a more badass version of MF that wasn't just Jessica Rabbit in a pirate outfit. Some VU would greatly help her be realized.

Sivir is hard to say since she looked like she had a pole shoved so far up that she couldn't bend over. Now she looks like she has a actual back problem. Overall she looks a lot better though!

*P.S. Rito plz give Sivir proper healthcare.

I would prefer if Riot focused on VGUs instead of trying to support VUs as well. The ultimate payoff of VGUs is ALWAYS higher than VUs, and if you're already updating the textures/model/animations of a champion, you may as well look at their kit to determine if there's something you can do to improve their play patterns.

Yes please, but only if they handle them with more care as was done with Warwick's. I don't want to see anymore champions removed from the game like Galio. I am really sick of VGU's.

I know, I just meant a visual upgrade akin to his instead of a complete visual re-imagining of the character like Galio. Wasn't referring to any of the gameplay changes.

Of course if you put it that way people will pick yes. (sorry if I come of as grumpy or mean, I'm not :V) But I think it would have made more sense if you also give an option to "Yes, but you might aswell update gameplay at the same time" kinda thing. Because in my opinion it would be much better if they could use that oppertunity to at the same time as the VU just slap on some gameplay tweaks to modernize the champ. It doesn't have to be much but just a little bit since it otherwise would be a missed oppertunity.

Yeah a lot of people are probably voting for yes,thinking of updates like Warwicks.

Heck the gameplay update doesn't even have to outright replace any abilities. I mean Sivir got a small gameplay update with her VU,it just kept her existing spells and adjusted them.

This question is kinda biased. Almost everyone wants more VU's, me too. But that doesnt mean I want a VU over a (V)GU.

You are kind of right. I think what really got me interested in making this was as a response to a Rioter's post sharing how they feel about VUs in general. They find them unvalued and not worth doing. Where I found myself disagreeing because they can be just as awesome as a VGU. Although I would like VGUs and GUs for a large portion of characters more, VUs are also nice for the characters that are fine in a large amount of aspects but are outdated. Like there is still champions that mention summoners or 2012 memes. Really even if it was only one VU a year, that would greatly help out for some champions like Lee, Caitlyn, Lulu, etc. Champions that won't be touched for years because really they are fine, but their appearance, voices, or even textures are just outdated.

It more comes down to, I want Riot to know VUs are something people like and would want and they shouldn't just be shelved and forgotten.

Absolutely yes, back when i was way more active on the boards i made a thread about exactly this. Update visual, effects and enhance the characters personality, story and motifs through new dialogue and maybe updated lore without compeletely changing the character in its entirety. There are good examples of this in the past Annie Heimerdinger Karthus Karma Nasus Sejuani (back then) Singed Twitch Kassadin Maokai . Thats not to say VGU's are bad, but there are champions that need a fresh coat of paint without a need to touch their kit such as Caitlyn Pantheon Shaco Udyr Swain Nunu , just imagining these champions with fresh animations, dialogue, lore and effects is enough to get me into a entire new level of excitement. There really isn't any reason to drop VUs. (Some of the champions i mentioned have had changes to their kit but it wasn't significant to a point where they felt like a diferent champion because of it. And some unfortunately didn't get new dialogue ( Singed Kassadin Maokai )
