So if Darkin are just Fallen/Corrupted Ascended, what are Renekton and Xerath?
Renekton and
Xerath look pretty fallen to me. Or do you need be in contact with the Void to turn into a Darkin?

Darkin in lore are all the Ascended warriors past Azir fall that waged war between themselves for dominion (which, ironically, puts both Renekton and Xerath outside of this nomenclature as they were imprisoned for the whole time).
The Darkins we knew are the Ascended who got sealed in their weapons, their demonic look coming from them forcing their original form into mortal bodies.
I think the humans in the story would refer to Renekton and Xerath as Darkin, too. To them, Darkin is kind of a derogatory word for ascended; the semantics are not that important to the characters in the story, I think.
If I read the lore correctly, Darkin are fallen ascended, like worse than Xerath and Renek?
Xerath is not actually fallen as he has still kept his purity, it’s just he seeks vengence on Azir
You don't "turn into a darkin". I guess if the Ascended fall into a state of greed and death, killing each other for the sake of power, then they're simply called "darkin" instead.
If Xerath and Renekton would have been free back then they would have certainly fit the description of a darkin back then.
But now the term "darkin" only refers to the ascended that were sealed within the weapons.
I think the point is that Darkin isn't something you become. It's a title people gave to the Ascended who destroyed the world in their petty squabbles with one another. It's a title, not an actual type of being.
The Ascended who fell from grace and plagued the world with endless conflict are called Darkin by the mortals who see them as evil beings instead of righteous gods. Ascended (such as Renekton) who had nothing to do with the conflicts wouldn't be called Darkin because they weren't involved in the endless wars.
Thats it :D Renekton actually was in Icathia thats mean he was touched by void So my opinion is Renekton is really Darkin Xerath wasnt in Icathia so he is not
Renekton is a Darkin aka a 'Fallen' ascended who has lost his purpose.
Xerath is a true ascended which means he took power without the bonds a normal ascended has.
Renekton is either a crocodile or an alligator. I'd prefer he not be darkin or ascended; just a super strong individual capable of taking them on 1v1. You can have too much of a good thing; too many darkin or ascended. It might even be cooler if he and nasus weren't originally from shurima but got adopted by/became citizens of shurima.

can't be a Darkin because he's been imprisoned alongside Xerath for all those years while the Darkin Wars took place. as far as we know, he's just crazy and brain washed by Xerath.
Darkin is now a slur for tyrannical ascended. These Darkin use forbidden magic to alter their bodies. After they were sealed, and escaped, they use the flesh and blood of their victims to try and recreate their bodies.
People keep forgetting if rendition was never trapped with Xerath he’d be by Nasus’ and we all know ol nasus isn’t fighting unless he absolutely has to.
Who said Darkin are Ascended? Also, Renekton and Xerath are mad Ascended, as in they're insane.
