I miss the days of Visual updates for the sake of Visual updates

Not because of a rework or how commercial the champion is. Why don't you guys do visual updates that aren't linked to gameplay changes anymore?

Yeah, there are some champs that would really benefit from VU's while having solid kits :/

Amen. I mean , I kinda get why Riot is doing this, due to the fact that if they spend all their resources on random champions that need a Vu but not a Rework, the champions that need both are going to have to wait even longer. Right now, Yorick Swain Evelynn Galio Urgot Warwick Ryzeand Akali have all been stated that they need both a visual and a gameplay update. Now, if the teams that work on the VU also have to work with Cassiopeia Zyra Corki Chogath Pantheon Irelia Skarner and Zilean then it would take about double the amount of time, so I get it that this way the line of the Full VGU champions goes a lot faster. This year we already have Taric, and are still going to receive Yorick, Ryze and Warwick , so just in one Year , 3 massive offenders are going to be taken care of. I just hope that once the massive offenders are taken care of , Riot goes back to giving champs VU´s for the sake of VU´s

it's more beneficial to work hollistically, plus visual updates often times feel really bad since there's no VO lines added, it's not about being commercial, it's about workload and resources management

Resource efficiency.

Why do a rework that's purely visual, if there's a potential in a year or two of a total rework?

It's like upgrading your computer every time a new piece of hardware comes out.

You can do that to keep your computer state of the art, but it's a waste of money and your time to constantly change components. What makes more sense is to wait until you have multiple changes to make, do them all at once, and leave yourself without a need to make such changes for as long as possible.

Still hoping that Teemo gets a VU, my friend doesn't like playing his classic skin because he "looks like a fat potato."

And for a 20 and so year old yordle, whose splash art makes him look like he's in top shape, doesn't seem right as well.

stealthfox945/21/2016, 7:55:55 PM4 votes

yeah champs like Jax Olaf and Udyr come to mind. All need VU's but not reworks.

IMO Garen needs help...his head size bugs me

Nidalee could use some updated splash art for her skins

Morgana moves strangely in game. The dress and hair seem very rigid

and THANK YOU for Taric He needed it so bad. (only talking about art here)

They were doing it last year to get ready for the updated SR, since they wanted the artstyle to be cohesive. I guess theres no pressure to do it anymore.

Every VU Riot has done is because the champion was badly in need of it. It's not because it was a publicity stunt or because they wanted more money from players. Currently, there are a lot more champions who could use a touch up here and there but they have a backlog of work that is on top of their list and they get to go first. In case you haven't noticed, they want quality work to be done, therefore Reworks + VGUs take precedent and they take up more time to be done right.

They can also randomly do an Update to a certain champ, if they manage to squeeze it in the time frame + have available resources.

They'll come back ne day, once they've made most of the grave reworks. Also PARSLEY SAAAAGE ROSEMARY AND THYYYYME

Those days never existed. The visual updates are ALWAYS to give minor sales boosts to champions who have fallen too far down.

Kayle Deserves a Visual Update.. Her E flames look outdated and the way she swings her sword looks like she's swatting flies or something..

Pls rework my much desired to be main....

Fiddlesticks The whole bit pls, I want to be a REAL scary scarecrow...

I have the feeling that almost every completely overhauled Champion update is terrible (except for Sion ),Malzahar is even more horrible to play against, furthermore do Champion updates lose the feeling most mains got with them, for example Casseiopia and skarner. When I see a Champion update I now get scared.

CasterGilgamesh5/23/2016, 12:25:37 AM1 votes

Udyr needs an update and he needed it yesterday his Doritos hands in tiger form is atrocious one of the only champions you have to pay for a VU

Idk if you listen to the LOL podcast at all, but it explains this. The teams all work together on updates, art story, gameplay, etc. They feed off each others ideas, and use it to make a strong thematic that fits the characters design, and look. Its called the DNA team I think? So yeah its just a better way of doing things rather than just take on a revamp of the visuals that may or may not fit a future skillset or lore piece. for instance with taric they might have kept his shield in a vu change, but his skillset doesnt require the shield at all so itd be weird to have it. So by doing it all at once they have a much stronger more thematic design. Idk if I explained this well... Just listen to the podcast Riot does a really good job on this topic.

I'm quite positive it has to do with feasibility and how doing a VU with gameplay changes is simply the most time effective way to achieve it. Understand that because most champions that need VUs also need gameplay changes, Riot has a much better opportunity to improve their production value (guys this important, like super important) on top of their visual aesthetics and game health.

Then there's the whole debacle with what we've seen with Ryze, how he's gone through so many changes, and those changes turned into time sinks that have led Riot to "We just have to completely rehaul him, guys." It's so much more time and cost effective to update the VU/GU at the same time than to keep trying updates piece-by-piece without any real success.

That said, "most" champions does not equate to all of them. I can definitely agree that Ezreal/Morde/Udyr and a few others need VU help without being completely reworked.

Ezreal/Udyr could definitely use a Nasus-level VU in a year or so, given their Ulti skins will have become a bit dated by then. I know a Rioter said somewhere that Ez's ultimate skin is being retouched eventually at the very least, so that will probably be in time for his eventual VU.

I want to mention how I feel this thread is a bit hysteria-bitten though. It acts like Riot is acting malicious or negligent in this affair and that simply is not the case.

I just wish Ahri would get some very minor work. Fix how her tails are all over her butt and give her a sprinting animation that isn't her normal walk sped up.
