Just for curiosity, why the Snowdown skins no longer have to do with the Christimas?

On the early years of League, skins that were released at the time of Christmas actually had to do with the Christmas. We had things like Santa Gragas, Old Saint Zilean, and Toy Solider Gangplank. However, starting at 2013, all Snowdown skins are purely snow/ice themed. They no longer have that feeling of Christmas that older skins used to have.

I would like to know why Riot started to do this. They want to avoid religious connotation? They want the skins to tie more to the game itself? They want the game to have more original content instead of making every skin based on something from the popular culture?

Honestly I think it has to do with the whole snowball fight thing. When you have a game mode that involves throwing snowballs, having champions run amok in snowsuits is not outside the theme. We're not talking about snow/ice theme here like Frost Queen Janna or Freljord Rammus. This is snowsuits.

That being said, I do hope they get off this kick and come back next year with some different ideas. There's nothing offensive about Snow Angel Kayle or Urgot the Snowman.

I think its merely that they liked the snowdown skins better. Might be just personal preference from the rioters.

Also its probably because Santa-skins or elf skins offer less variability(all santa skins are red and white, all elf skins have green clothes),with the snowday skins they have much more freedom.

Because not everyone celebrate christmas. Its about snow and snowy season.

To market better toward the international player base that doesn't celebrate Christmas, which is fairly large currently.
